IF you've bought a new drive shaft for a daily driver......

Do you buy locally? Or online ??? IF online, care to share the shop/link?? And Price ??? $$

Thanks in advance,

I can get most anything done I need at the machine shop I use. That's one of the old guy's specialties is drive shafts. I need one form the rat truck made. I have one to use and shorten and put yokes on and have all the parts. He said about 200 in labor and I'm done. I prefer to have them done locally, because I can communicate directly face to face and that lessens the chances for mistakes.

I wanna say I paid 85 bucks to have one made, but that was 5 years ago

Somewhat local, about a 45 minute drive, one way

If you live in or near any major city let your fingers do the walking as they use to say. Shipping would be expensive for a driveshaft.

Lucky that I have a shop close to me.Hope you do too.Online has the problem of having to ship it back if a problem.
Adams Driveshaft/Driveline.

I had strange engineering make my last driveshaft. Like others have said above, shipping would be astronomical. I would go local now.

I had a vibration and suspected the driveshaft needed to be balanced. I found a truck driveshaft shop near me that was highly recommended. When I brought my driveshaft in, he took a quick look and said what year Mopar? Figured I was in the right place.
The shaft was rusted, pitted and dinged up, plus he noticed the front slip yoke was worn.
He replaced my original shaft section with a new one to match the legnth. He used my original rear yoke. Replaced the front slip yoke and welded all to the shaft itself plus balance and painted with
brand new Spicer heavy duty U joints.
Cant remember price, It wasn't crazy expensive, less than $500 but worth it.

$500 is near half the price of his truck...lol..

I think a lot of it has to do with horsepower output, if you're under 400 horses having a stock drive shaft modified or worked on will probably survise. After that I would be considering an upgrade if you've ever had a driveline failed you'll never want to go there again ! if you're not sure just run slicks or drag radials for a while and it will become perfectly obvious.

fairly local shop we dealt with from the dealership. took three shafts; 1 the correct length, 1 had correct yoke and u-joint size and last one had correct rear yoke size. cut 'em apart and put a new tube in, balanced with new joints under $200...many years ago.

I had a few done too, but man, it's been like 15 years since the last time. LOL. Didn't know if there was a "new source" of awesomeness with drive shafts or if it is still the same game, shop local and pay the price

IF I had one done for a "special" project, I'd probably run up to Strange and have one built. but up to that point, local shop is fine.

I'll have to pick up the phone this coming week. I believe my old source has gone out of business.

 after having several Strange shafts over the years, I believe it's the best 400 bucks I ever spent. probably a little more now.
Measure, picks your parts and wait for a quality bulletproof piece to arrive at your front door.
Doctor Diff is my go to source.

I like dealing with Dr. Diff

I don't like cheap'n out on the drivetrain, if anything , get the best u-joints available, but you know that.

I can't help, but I'll comment anyway....
The last shaft I bought was for a pure racecar, 3 1/2 aluminum, 1350s and billet yokes. Wish I remembered who did it. It was local, under $500.
If I needed one tomorrow I would go to the nationally known shop just down the street, inland empire driveline service. I doubt anything will be under $500 now.

Last one I had rebuilt and balanced was several years ago, I believe it was under $200.00 with new Spicer u-joints.
