Dog won't sleep in the dog house

What breed?

Not sure, has bloodhound eyes, short muzzle, short hair, i think they call the color brindle, dark brown with yellowish brown mixed in.

I agree, this would be good and like mentioned before a heated pet pad/bed works awesome! I know many dogs like being outside, here in Minnesota it’s gonna be -25 tonight, I have 4 outside cats, we live in the country but don’t have any old buildings or shed for them to hide in. If I let them in my shop they just get into everything and walk on my cars so not having that, so I built a big box out of wood for them to stay in, insulated the inside and have a heated pet bed with a rug on top and they do great in there, warm for sure. Maybe your dog likes to be outside...but I think a heated pet bed would be really good...they make several different sizes, they just plug into an outlet.

Could we see a picture of Zeus? :)

This was taken after going to the vet the first time he and the other big male, Hobo, got into it.

Not sure,

Certainly not a Husky, they tend to like it out in the elements, that's why I was curious. Do you know if he was abused?? Reason I ask is if he was he may be associating that dog house with not so good times. Try making another makeshift shelter and see if he'll use it.

Is the dog house actually big enough. If he can't walk in, turn around and then lay down that might be an issue.

Just my .02 cents.

If he won't go in the doghouse, there's a good chance it is too small for him. They need room to turn around and get comfortable. Opening might be too small. They don't like it if it's a tight squeeze.

Here's pic of him where he used to live and that'
s the dog house he stayed in, as far as i know that's the only life he's known.

.
Looks like a sooner breed.
Sooner sleep than eat.

Naw, he's pretty normal, eat's very well, had real salmon the other day mixed in with Beniful dog food, scarfed it right up like a vacuum cleaner ! :)

They have already gotten into it twice, and bad too, had to go to the vet to get drains put in their necks, he can be around all the others except the big male

That's a toughy. Slow, proper introductions are needed here. They are fighting for dominance, both want to be top of the pecking order.

I have a male Malinois and a couple years ago I had the opportunity to adopt another. I went through the introduction process, slowly exposing them to one another, then once they calmed down I muzzled both of them and let them together. It took a couple months of work but they cohabitate now, even play, albeit a little rough. I still have to sorta watch them just out of an abundance of caution.

Great job and patience !
Zeus was in our front yard and separated from the others, ha only been there a day or so, the ol' lady goes out on the front porch and leaves the door open, Hobo comes out of the house, growls one and then it was on. I tried everything i could think of to separate them, even the water hose in the nostrils, i told the ol' lady to get my pistola, i was going to shoot Zeus if i had to, they finally ran out of gas and i had to take them both to the vet separately of course. They both needed drains in the neck.

The two that are fighting for dominance need to know that YOU are the alpha, not either of them. Kick their asses when they show the slightest sign of getting into it. As far as sleeping in the dog house, I agree with what has been said before: he may not like the house because it carries bad memories. Provide a new shelter until you can bring him inside.

IF it happens again, grab both back legs of the dog you had (since he knows you) right at or above the joint and back up pulling them apart, provided the other dog is chained. That is the preferred method amongst most dog trainers.

I applaud you for trying, it is difficult, but if it works out it is rewarding for both you and the dogs.

Back in Missouri I had an Australian Sherperd. He had a dog house on the front porch with an old quilt. When it got really old and wind, I would get him i the house he laid there by the front door trying to get bit of cold air. He wanted OUT too darn hot in there!!!

Thank you for taking in that abused dog and doing right by him. And thanks to all the other great folks here that take in stray cats and dogs and look after them. I just don't understand how people can abuse or neglect or ignore these animals.

Now that i have all the pups on Heart guard and two that underwent the heart worm treatment (Zeus was about 2K with the inital visit) because they were positive, all the shots and pup chow, i told the vet since i'm caught up on all that I'll have saved enough money to get a new BMW soon ! :)
Ain't bitchin at all, jus sayin', I would absolutely do it all again.

Give the dog your room and chain yourself to your new house. lol

Essentially i have given up one of my rooms, the office/cave/storage/hobby room, he's been in there the last two night, bought him a giant fluffy doggy bed, not a peep outta him.
