I'm looking at purchasing the OER Radiator Number MA2246A, from Classic Industries, for my 69 Swinger 340, 4 speed. This radiator is a 3 row for an automatic. The stick 3 row and 4 row radiators have been back ordered for a long time.

My original radiator number is 2949066, which I believe is a 2 row, for a stick or an automatic. Any thoughts on whether I would be making a mistake on purchasing this automatic radiator. I don't know why they even have a different radiator for a stick and an automatic. Does it make a difference in cooling?

The difference between auto and manual is whether it has the trans. cooler in it.
Not technically correct, but if you're not concerned about that, then just plug/cap the cooler lines and run it.
 
I hate this whole "deal" they started. Screw that back order crap, tie your cash up for 6-12 months. Grab that auto unit, plug it in, and drive it!
 
I know we'll never change but i wonder if we should be calling it a transmission fluid heater? You want your transmission to be between 170 and 190 degrees.
Delta T says the bottom of the rad is about 160 if the top is 190.
 
I had the same rad #2949066 for my 69 4spd barracuda. THAT is a high $$ rad. Even if the core is puked it's worth $$. I had mine recored and an extra row added. He split the top and bottom tanks and added to it. Top notch, you cant even tell. I'll chk for pics, and yes for 69 the factory used that rad for auto and 4spd. 68 had different part numbers auto vs 4spd.

I have a brand new never used. Never filled 4 core from OER. 1972 340 Dart I'll sell you. Pm me.
 
I still have the original box it came in. With the packaging materials. I'm local for you. You could look at it in person.

Good point. There's also differences in how the tanks are positioned in terms of clearing the hood, bottom and fan.
68 and 69 are the same. 67 takes a unique to 67 shroud.
Its probably worth a call to GlenRay to see what he can offer in terms of repair or recore.

Doug 371 is correct . The 1969 small block radiator bottom hose is on the driver's side, while 70 on up is on the passenger side. And the timing tab on the timing cover also switched sides, as did the timing mark on the harmonic balancer. I called Glen-Ray yesterday. The cost for installing a new core (3 row) on my radiator was $750 plus shipping in both directions.

To 72Dart6pack- I wish my pole barn looked like your garage, which looks like a museum.
 
Honestly those radiators are for show cars at best, I would stick with a original retanked radiator for that year

Wow. That gone up a lot in the past 5 years. Copper prices and small scale manufacturing prob driving the prices.
 
I bought the above radiator offered for sale. I have no recourse in his feedback profile, because we did the transaction through PM. I bought this radiator as an OER bolt in replacement for my '72 Dart. It was not. I did not ask for a refund, nor did the seller offer to buy it back. In fact, I haven't heard a word from him. I am out $500. This is the 2nd time on FABO that I have been burned, doubt that I will ever buy anything again either. Leaves a pretty bad taste in your mouth.

I understand your pain, but if you didn't do your diligence and ask for pictures, etc, that's on you. I've bought and sold many items on FABO, all with good consequence, and I can assure you I've never taken advantage of anyone .
 
I got pictures,and a part number, but, sorry I do not share your view. Anyone can show you one thing, but that doesn't mean that's what you are getting.
 
I've had my finged singed a little a couple times, but that's neither here nor there. Let's see if we can help you move on by figuring out what you have.

If you have either of the radiators mentioned in the first post, they will not work in a '72. However someone with a '68 or '69 would probably quit ewilling to buy it from you.
OER is a misleading trade name because its easily confused as OEM, an abreviation used for decades by antique and classic car restorers as well as the industry.
MA2246A - 1967-69 Mopar A-Body Small Block V8 With Automatic Trans 3 Row Replacement Radiator
This item is 1968-9 v-8 A-body replacement. Prossibly ok for '67 other than the fan shroud fit.

if this is what you have, Steve said that's a '69. Again not for your '72 but is fairly valuable, even just for parts. Glen Ray will certainly give you something for it.

if you have something else, post it up - start a new thread - ask what its for and I'm sure people will help out.
 
For numbers correct car, 2949066 is '69 only v-8 manual transmision A-body 340 only

I stand corrected, I have changed post #15.
The radiator is supposed to be an OER 2261A. That should be Classic Industries. Not sure what I actually have. It is a 4 row radiator, the slots were to narrow at the bottom to sit on the 2 bottom mounting bolts, he had drilled a hole in the bottom area to mount, still would not fit my '72. He also has a '72. I widened the slots to mount, then the top tank flange that is soldered to the core hits the radiator support, you can not tighten the top bolts in. The fan shroud won't fit either, plus when he tried fitting his fan shroud to it, he punched a hole in a core tube with the screw/bolt. I don't believe that he knew that, found it when I was exchanging the clip nuts. I really do not want to pass this onto someone else. It surprises me that #16 actually believes that it is my fault, sometimes no matter how much diligence in checking, the seller has the position of power. To me, your word means nothing, if you do not follow through.

So you bought the 4 core rad from 72Dart6pack? Why doesn’t it fit/bolt in? Kim
 
Yall ever seen how quick a GOOD radiator shop can swap sides with a hose nipple? I've seen one done in less than five minutes total. It's a total non issue.
 
Somehow those posts weren’t on when I typed mine. Thank u for the explanation. If he drilled a hole in it that means he tried to fit it and he had the same issues you are having but neglected to tell you. C as use you certainly wouldn’t of bought it then. You have to ask the right questions or you won’t get the answers your looking for. I feel your pain. Kim
