360 2bbl 9-1 CR stock car. either one is allowed. assuming pinging ain't a potential would one work better than the other? burn time & all of that which I know nothing about. thank you for your time. RR

whats your cranking compression on a cylinder?

Under 11/1 with Alum heads use super clear 92 non ethanol. Some tracks you can get 96 non ethanol. When you start getting into race gas the costs jump a lot and is a waste with such low compression. Remember the higher the octane the slower the burn.

Nhra Stock Eliminator needs to run approved race gas. Some guys with small block 2bbl V8 engines When the rum locally and try other things the cars runs quicker with pump gas than race gas.

Stock iron heads or milled? What’s your piston to head clearance?

On the surface it looks like pump premium would suffice, but...

With your type of racing, do different track lengths come into play? How hard is the engine loaded out of the turns? Does that type of car run a locked out total for timing?

These things i'm not familiar with. You may need a little more octane then pump. Guessing you may be better doing a little mix at times depending on?

Try each.

With Gasoline, the lowest octane fuel the engine can run on without detonation will make the most power. What car, gearing, and weight, and is it asphalt or dirt?

Is it blueprinted to 9:1 compression? If so with a larger than stock cam it will probably run on 87 octane.

What are the cam specs? I'm guessing rules limit you to Iron manifolds?

If you can find ethanol free 89 pump gas (look for power sport gas) it will run the best with a cushion for low RPM locked out timing restarts.

Run 100 and crank up the timing. The issue with pump gas is batch variation and contaminants. I don't like the non ethanol pump swill either.

Have a 340 10.5:1 340 run on 93 non-ethanol pump gas from Murphy
Full advance about 35°
No pings
9:1 should run on 90 non-ethanol no issues.

Sunoco Optima 95 octane would be a good track fuel for the price. Sunoco also has some oxygenated fuels to improve output in limited induction 2 barrel racing, but they run around $20 a gallon.

Looking forward to results and pictures!!
racing starts apr 23,doubt if I will be finished in time for test & tune night. last year we could run an iron 2bbl (on there now that was in a different car that wrecked) or alum performer or stealth, this year only the 2 alum ones. EDIT EQ heads & no quench & not locked out

Just because you don't audibly hear detonation does not negate it's existance. In an engine that is getting hammered at WOT you want good fuel, period. If you are really trying to be competitive that engine will respond well to more timing if the fuel you run can handle it. Drill external bleed holes in both venturies, jet it up, let it eat.

Pump gas has a slower burn rate than race gas. It will be two totally different tune ups. IMO I’d run pump gas and use an additive that is a fuel conditioner as well as an octane booster.

You don’t need much octane. But you do need something to help deal with all the detergents and fillers in pump gas.
