Figured I’d start a thread on the most recent purchase. Late December I picked up a 70 duster. Can’t have just one car right? Goal is running/driving tagged and insured for under 2k including buying the car.

Day I picked it up. 40 degrees, raining sideways and happy as hell.

I was taught long ago, no matter how good the deal….NEVER pay asking price, so I didn’t.

Has a “low mileage” J headed 360 in it, not bad after blasting 20 years of rat crap off it.

So for the background on the duster. Father/son project that the kid ended up scattering the 7 1/4 in the car in 2002, and the car got parked….and sat until I purchased it. So far I’ve horse traded parts, flipped parts and I’ve spent a couple hundred bucks to make it run and drive. Now it has big bolt pattern disc up front, some used 90/10 Calvert shocks, a B body 8.75 with a 3.23 sure grip 489 center section.

I tossed a kit in the Holley, a new fuel pump and 6 out of the 8 plug wires got replaced. Had a new master cylinder on the shelf, and bought a conversion U joint (7260-7290) for it.

Had to the old wheels, tires, and lug nuts from my dart and some auto meter gauges laying around so I dressed the car up a bit. Progress is gonna be slow on this one since it’s strictly funded by flipping and horse trading parts, but it just goes to show you can still build a fun ratty beater on a shoe string budget.

Grand total is somewhere in the 16-1700 dollar range as it sits.

Those dirtbag scammers that beg for dollars in front of stores?
Yeah....
I would have picked a different title for this build.
I love Dusters and low dollar builds are cool but the name of this one is not good.
Here are some different ideas:
Low Dough show.
Bare Bones Build.
Jewish Man Plan.

Okay, forget the Jewish suggestion.....some might be touchy about that type of humor.
Penny Pincher Plymouth.

lol I thought it was a cool name. It's your car. Call it POS if you want to. lol

Looks like a great start, around here the body's dissolve from rust in a few years.
My uncle bought a new 70 Duster, within 4 years he drove it to the junkyard, rear springs went thru the trunk floor.

I’ve called both my cars worse than I’d care to type on here. All part of the fun, just didn’t want to ruffle any feathers is all
I have a coat I wear sometimes I call my "homeless coat" because it looks kinda ratty....even though it's not been worn much. It's just the coloring and fabric it's made out of.

I don't think anyone would have been offended. I just thought the build needed a more creative name.
Your new name is great!

Awesome. Just like the old days. Hopefully you won't need any "one year only" parts

Did you yank the slots, or are those the ones from your other car?

THIS is my kinda build! Never been rich, never will be- but damn, I've had some fun along the way!
Now where's the "Double Like" button?

The slots came off and went to another member in here.

My favourite wheels

For years I told everyone that would listen I was going to own a duster with slots on it. I loved them but 14s and small bolt pattern just weren’t going to be viable for this build. I do have a possible line on a pair of 15x4 big bolt pattern slots though…

As you can see in my avatar pic, I had them on my Demon back in the early 80's. I managed to save them all these years to go on my current '71 Demon build. LOL......My nephew managed to grab them before my sister's live-in had the car crushed, as it was stored at the family homestead............But that's another story:(

I Lost a Super Clean Duster, the day we buried my Grandmother. I love my uncle, But not that much. He'd put the Screws to me a few times. My 68 Coronet had slots....... I dug em!
