Assembled the old Heads onto my SS 318 new Shortblock.

I measured and made a new set of pushrods and they had to
be a LOOONG 8 full inches to work! The new rollers are that short.

My old shortblock with everything the same even the deck height
identical and same everything except Roller lifters, required about 7.3 something.

The holes in my heads are huge and had plenty of clearance. Now I would have to
clearance the top

Stock 318 roller lifters are 2 5/8" roller to top end.

Stock 318 roller pushrods are 6 3/4" ball end to ball end.

Stock 302 head 318 application.

I would say at 8"s, something is very very wrong.

you may have read it, but i don't think you were able to parse the information that was presented.

super stock motor, i'd wager you could count the number of things that are "stock" spec in there on one hand.

not the least bit surprised on the pushrod length.

Parse. I had to look it up. LOL

Just a guess without too much thought into it, the pushrod seats in the lifters are lower in the lifter body to help straighten out the pushrod angle/geometry for higher rpm use, hence the need for longer pushrods.

Comp 828-16 roller lifters have a pushrod seat height of 1.79", which I believe is including a 5/16" ball in the lifter to measure with. Pretty short lifter! If you dig you can find other manufacturers dimensions also.
