Spending the day with Herb was over the top. Just he, I and my girlfriend. Until lunch, then we went out with several of his friends.

The Shadow Woods car is over the top. Single ply fiberglass, narrowed, shortened, channeled, titanium everywhere - even the valve covers! Stamped right in the factory. The floor was removeable even. Crazy stuff
oh man that would be killer I hope to get out there this year if all my travel allows, I would love to really check out that shadow woods car in person too. I can only imagine the titanium bill on that one mine is getting high for titanium bolts

Tried to send you a PM, but it is full

You are DEEP in the weeds on this project. Hopefully it runs the number when you finally get it down the track.

BTW - if there is any chance you can make it out to Carlisle this year do it. Herb usually has several of his cars on display and there's often several vintage race cars on the grounds. Buddy Martin was there last year. My friend and I talked to him for a bit about Brooklyn Heavy which was literally the best thing ever. I've talked to Herb a couple times over the years, he is awesome. Also Hemi Denny from here and Butch Leal were there with the M/P Duster, Paul Rossi had his Challenger re-creation... etc.
They are great guys I see Tham at PRI and Sema for work plus Indy and what other events they go to. It's cool I even got a Christmas card from Herb this year. They are just good guys for sure.

Tonight, I got the fiberglass dash back from Colorado Hot Rod Heaven, and they absolutely nailed the tin work panel. They did a killer job, and I’m definitely looking forward to having them handle the tin work and stretch the wheel wells on the car. Huge thanks to the team for getting it done and fitting this one in!

I took direct inspiration from Herb’s Demon for this one.

Friday was really productive—I finished drilling out and dressing the last spot welds from the old quarter panel. Then, I focused on fitting and repairing the rear corner to prepare for mocking up the new quarter and fitting the tub tomorrow. I also stripped, treated, and sealed all the rust in the substructure. Tomorrow will be a full day in the shop getting the passenger side fitted.

Here comes a massive photo dump! I really got into the groove and made some solid progress. I kicked off the day by fitting the tubs and trimming the floor up to the rear frame rail, along with adding brackets to secure the tubs once they’re fully installed. The 40-inch tub is huge, but it looks killer and is going to be perfect for the slicks!

The wife and I also got the new quarter panel roughed in. It’s temporarily held in place to make sure it’s 100% where it needs to be before welding it in. I also went ahead and finished up the trunk floor area on the passenger side. With just a few loose ends to tie up this week, I’m hoping to get the quarter welded on next week.

Also, for anyone working on quarters for these cars—AMD’s molds are getting worse. Their stamping isn’t as good as it used to be. The outer panel looks fine, but the detail along the edges has really fallen short.

B.R.E., can you post pictures of the metal removal from the mid section of the car forward? I'm thinking about doing the hole saw thing to try to get my car closer to 2300-2400 lb range. I know I'm going to loose some when I swap the iron heads to aluminum, but I want to get more weight off the front of the car.

Even the mock-up is getting the twin-plug treatment—lol. But in reality, I need to drop it back into the chassis for a quick header fitting since the 430’s crank will be done in a couple of weeks, and the big motor will be ready shortly after. So the headers will be needed (the old welds and pipe look horrible)

Badass

Went out to the shop after work and dropped in the mockup with the headers. The driver’s side fit nicely and will only need a slight adjustment. The passenger side will be trickier, but definitely workable.

Today in the shop was a bit all over the place. I started by getting the truck put back together, then moved on to redoing the driver-side header. It turned out exactly how I wanted, but I’m holding off on finish welding it so I can step back and take a final look. After that, I started on the passenger-side header but ran out of bent tube—though that one’s shaping up to be easier than I expected.
While waiting for my wife to get back from the barn so I could pull the truck in, I decided to mock up the tunnel ram just to see how it looked. Safe to say, it’s gonna be good.
Tomorrow, the plan is to really focus on welding the quarter panel, making the rear frame rail mount for the wheelie bar tube, and tying up a few more loose ends. Oh, and I also got the firewall bar put in. Like I said, today was all over the place!

Cool dude, making some hay !

Made some major progress on the car! The passenger side is about 90% done, with the quarter panel fully welded in. I also fabricated and fitted the rear frame cap on the passenger side, which will support the rear X-member. To top it off, the new 2 5/8" Stewart Warner gauges arrived for the dash—they had to match the fuel pressure gauge.

This is the tach I got NOS I would like to find a 10K
Cool, I have one of those as well. I associate those more with the '68 S/S cars but that's minutiae nerd stuff. The later ones like I showed are actually much harder to find though, I don't think SW made nearly as many. Also, if you don't have or can't find a cable for it I can forward you the info on the place that made mine.

Also - if you're interested, there's a pair of Fenton Gyro front runners currently for sale on marketplace in Linden NJ. I have a pair on my Duster or I would have went and bought them already. Guy is asking $800 which is not too bad for 2025. They appear to have Formula 1 Super Stock tires on them and I know someone who would definitely want those.

Does not get any more '71-'72 Pro Stock than Fenton Gyros!
