That runs the water pump. I believe with it off the motor warms up a little quicker.

electric water pump drive.

fairly typical in a dyno environment in that you generally run sans accessories and figuring out a water pump drive and pulleys and what not is an exercise in futility with so many engines and combinations.

the second part is that you can keep the cooling tower going and continue to drive the pump with the motor off to cool it down between pulls or cool it quickly to change components for back to back tests.

My hearing is so shot, I don't hear things that are present and I do hear things that are not sometimes. But, It sounded to me as if something was scraping something in that video too. Like for instance, maybe the crank scraping on a windage tray.
