Have a 1972 340 duster all original. Exhaust is pretty beat up different mufflers, tips rusted out on Passenger side. I want to order new exhaust who do you guys prefer and why.
Im looking at TTI they have the exhaust tips but look little different then mine also there system is a 2.5 seems larger then the stock I have. There system also has H and x cross over I’m sure if you call them they won’t install them.
Then I’m looking at Classic exhaust systems. No cross over great but don’t offer the tips. Then the sizes of exhaust differs from L to R is that the same as when left the dealer. Also what about the mufflers from both outfits. As far as the car I just got it running after 30years just want to order more original exhaust and keep things stock. And as far as Accurate exhaust I ordered for another car and it didn’t fit so great. Thanks in advance.

The TTI system is 2.5 or 3 inches both of which are larger than stock. If the '72 is the same as '70 the exhaust does not exit in the exact factory location which may not matter to you depending on what tips you want to run and how they are mounted. I have the TTI system with downpipes for manifolds and I am happy with it even though I had to do some light massaging to make the downpipes fit properly.

So yes TTI is mandrel bent, and as a result will flow the best. The pipes are also pre-bent to fit like a glove, and for the most part, they do. There is a company called Pypes which has a Mandrel Bent system too. I would check on that. I have used TTI and you can Bolt it on yourself. When you go to an Exhaust shop, they usually have trouble bending the pipe around the rear axle on A-body's. The Driver side near the engine is also difficult for bends. They crimp the pipe and you end up with 1 7/8 pipe opening in certain areas,

Only tti, accurate etc sell oem style headpipes. Most other companies only offer header back style.
And for some reasons a can't remember don't do Stainless.
I asked TTI if I could get Head Pipes for my stock manifolds in SS said yes for an upcharge when we are slow. So had the lesser stock 73 surfaced and then ports blended best I could. Instead of using my better flowing early 340 ones. Only to be told no later.
I understand originaly not SS but come on, can't really see it not being an option.
So bought Dougs headers

i have used Classic more than once and would again. High quality and economical! You won't make anymore power with mandrel bends and they are incorrect. I think Classic are pretty close to OEM.

So i was giving accurate a second thought but WOW at 2300$ price tag, and i don't want to do it twice.

The local muffler shop wanted $1800 no tips. TTI cost about the same up here… no brainer.

I did the same as @4spragtop and got TTi headers and Summit 3” exhaust kit . Then had a local shop tweek the system . Looks f*cking incredible ! And they only charged me $300.
Now this a W2 headed 408 wirh solid roller so 2.5” should be more than enough for your engine . Don’t sweat the mandrel bend **** .. you will never see a difference.

Get the pre- bent (Mandrel) Pipes. They fit way better, and flow better. You can also take them apart when needed.
