Ok soI have a 67 valiant signet.. and the two things that have been missing from it is...
a passenger side mirror and the Signet steering wheel.
Now I've put up on it ads for it before and never hear anything. Every time somebody puts one up for sale it doesn't last a hot minute, hell there's even a person on here that buys all of them up it seems like when it comes to the steering wheel. ..hell, one month that same person/fam bought two of them that I saw.

So there's a car that was being parted out on here and I specifically said that I'd like the side mirror from it and ask for a price. I was first yet somebody about eight or nine posts down gets the ******* mirror.

When you go to a restaurant and the waiter says .."what can I get you"

The response is either ..

"I'd like the steak n shrimp, please"

"I'll take the steak and shrimp, please"

Either one, the waiter knows wtf you're ordering, right?

I said I'd like the side mirror off of it how much do you want..
And the seller tells me I didn't say I wanted it.. tf..
He might not remember but I bought **** from him before too.

Thanks to @toolmanmike for trying to fix that.

I found that when people ask for an item the first thing I look at is the description of their location. Is it real? and also their title. You may want to change that.

Keep it auto related and always use the town you live in. Why be deceiving. Popcorn stand?

I've tried to do business with him years ago. It ended similarly to this situation with you, so I just overlook him now.

For me this should be the order that a part for sale is determined.

The first to post in the sale ad "PM sent for mirror" gets first dibs

  1. This option makes it pretty easy for everyone to determine who was first.
  2. Then it is up to the seller to make the deal with the first person in the ad.
  3. If the first person doesn't follow through with a PM or reply in 24 hours (or some reasonable time) or declines then the next person inline in the order of the posts in the ad gets a shot.

Its pretty simple and pretty civilized. I have made the mistake on occasion of just sending a PM and the seller doesn't see the PM till after they made a deal with the first to say "PM sent for mirror" That's 100% on me!

ALSO

When sending a PM use the title of the sale ad as your subject, put a link to the sale ad in the PM and follow through.

I totally agree with this. You want humor? Find a comic site to cruise.

Here are a few things that seem weird to me.
* People that use pictures of women as their avatars when they are actually men. That just seems creepy.
* The people that don't list an address of any kind.
* The address is vague like "Mountain Dweller" or something unspecific.
* People that advertise things for sale while not being a GOLD member. Hey, regular membership limits you to a really stingy 15 PMs. Selling things is going to fill up your inbox fast and to handle it, you need more storage. PLUS, if you're making money by using the site, you should share the wealth a bit. Remember the newspaper classified ads? Those weren't free, right? Step up and pay up.

Not everyone should have to pay gold to sell something here. Don't forget thats a perk of membership, having parts available to buy... so why punish the ones bringing the benefits here. Its the members that make the site. The site owner and mods are not the key contributors of information, while some are knowledgeable and no knock on em.. its really the members that make this site.

One thing also to remember its the sellers choice who he wants to sell to. If after the first interested person claims dibs. A 2nd or 3rd person Makes a substantial higher offer? Or someone closer who can pick it up with cash to avoid the shipping or payment hassel? Or a friend of the seller sees the item and the friend gets chosen for the purchase? Could be any reason for not getting the part you want. Maybe someone PM'd him first without giving notice on the thread ?

It's not an auction. I believe the rules say that. Set a price agree and be a man of your word. If money is what talks 24/7 then Integrity is gone

Buying here on this site has gotten harder and harder. When I joined years ago it was a gold mine for good **** to buy, I built my 69 dart almost completely on parts from this site.

Now it's just not the same anymore. I have had sellers just blow me off and shipping has killed a lot. Others think simple stuff is worth a lot more than it is. People talk **** about uncle Tony but I loved the guy and probably funded his garage rent some months. The guy had great prices and would ship anything in a way that saved you money.

Seems like ebay has gone through phases and it's easier to buy over there now.

I have a few sellers from here that we took it offline and I buy lots from them, often before it gets listed here.

Drama free buying is priceless

Whoa, dude. Those that think like this are a scourge to the hobby. If you make a deal, stick by it even if other offers come along.

Absolutely. You can't be the guy that has no code, no honor. If you agree to something, you must stand by it. I've been offered more for stuff after I made a verbal agreement to sell and hold stuff. I have never burned a buyer that way. Those that don't abide by this are not cool. I almost hope they get flat tires on the interstate on a rainy day or a sudden bowel urge when stuck in traffic.

and shipping has killed a lot.
Coming from Canada, I couldnt agree more. Shipping is outrageous, and THEN we Canadians have pay exchange on top of all that. I just found a pair of door weatherstrips on here for $100, the seller checked on shipping to me and it was 95 frickin dollars, for a pair of lightweight door weatherstrips! USPS even! I couldnt believe it. And then duty charges on top of that, and who knows what tariff **** on top of that also! I really wanted the parts, but I just cant pay that. And I feel shitty cause the seller went to the hassle of finding that info out for me and I dont follow through with the sale, but at least I was upfront and honest with him.

I was the first person to say I wanted an engine for sale on here. We made plans for the purchase/delivery. Then the guy messages me and says he decided to sell it to someone else. What a jerk.

Did you send a PM asking for his address to send the money before the other guy posted? Or was all your contact with the seller in the thread?

It looks like you didn't post again in the thread for well over 24 hours after your first post. You mentioned your inbox might have been full too, so the seller could have tried to send you a PM and couldn't get ahold of you?

You posted like 20 minutes after the sale thread went up. The seller responded to you only 15 minutes later. You gave him a "thanks" on his price post like 8 hours after that, but did you actually send anything else to him? Did you ever confirm you were willing to pay the $50 + shipping?

I saw something here a few days ago that inspired thought. A newbie stated he had inherited a lot of parts and planned to sell them here. My very first thought was,"poor soul don't know what a headache is. I should warn him what lies ahead."
A favorite John Cougar song says, "I saw you furst". Lyric is pretty much where this thread began. (Why did spell check allow me to misspell first? Ill try forst, hmmm strange).
Maybe that new guy will read some of this thread and see exactly why he should take his parts on to ebay where commerce is a bit more civil.
Good luck to all.

I agree 100% after an agreement is made with a buyer the deal should stick no matter what. That is not always the case. Many times money does the talking before any money changes hands. Happened to me many times at swap meets while the part was in my hand.

I agree with a lot of this.

I have been buying parts from sellers here since 2017 and have come across some real "jewels" selling parts here.

One I remember was selling trim. I responded immediately via Pm , didn't dispute the price , was first to respond and only wanted to know full price including shipping to my address. Never got a response after. This person is constantly on here selling , how I don't know. A complete Fu#king idiot and time waster.

Some advice for the Canadians on here. Find one of the reputable sellers on here and use them as much as you can. When you need something, contact them. Its a good chance they have it or know where to get it.

Some of the best people I found on here to deal with. I'm sure there are others..

Davescuda
Barracudakid
Grampstamp
Hemifiedbird
Rat Rod Al
4SpeedRagtop
Laysons
Brewers
HemiDenny
Bergman Autocraft

My system is much aligned with the features here. I list something, the first PM I get on the item is the first person to have the option to buy it. The only confusing part is when someone posts in the thread but doesn’t PM, I get prompts when I get a PM, I don’t get prompts when someone posts in the thread. It happened just recently with me and @jeff alder, and I felt real bad about it. The problem with posting in the thread is also that the potential buyer doesn’t know if someone PM’d on the item first, before they post in the thread. It would make it much easier if interested parties posted in the thread that they sent a PM, and also sent a PM. I still feel bad, and when it happens I wish I had 10 sets of everything and all replies can get the parts they need. I apologized to Jeff, but I think he’s still mad at me. I hope to reconcile with anybody that this happens to when I list parts.
