Hello. New to this site. I have a 72 swinger with a tired 318. I have obtained a 79 magnum with relatively low mileage 360 (complete car). I’m looking to swap running gear. I would appreciate any input from you all. Thanks.

Cool, welcome to the site. Magnum as you’re using it refers to a model of vehicle. Magnum as this thread is using it refers to a series of small block mopar engine. You’re all good though, your 79 magnum (car) will have an LA 360 most likely and most of the stuff from that will drop right in to your dart. The oil pan will need to changed. The exhaust will have to be dealt with, and the balance of the 360 is different from the 318 so either you need to use the transmission from the magnum (car) with the 360 or use your transmission with some aftermarket balance stuff. It’s all doable and been done before and is a relatively easy swap. If you have specific questions, shoot. And post up some pictures of what you’re working with and guys can get an idea of what you have.
Edited to add; engine mount brackets between the 318 and 360 are slightly different. Easy to work around with spacers or the 360 mounts are available.

Impressive catch! I completely missed that nuance in the OP's question.

Not mocking the OP, I completely understand the confusion.

Funny thing is, takes me back to my '78 Volare Super Coupe. Bought the car with a 318 in it and then bought a complete car just like above with a 360 4bbl to swap into it. Kind of regret cutting that Magnum up.

you shut your filthy mouth, philistine
He lives! You can have all the magnums. Even my share. As far as I’m concerned they’re a great place to find small blocks. That’s all.

Yep, at the time it was just a big car with the motor I needed.

Now I think they are kind of cool looking and I don't see them often. Plus they have a big engine bay that swallows a 6.2 well and they have some NASCAR history. Not saying I would go looking for one, but if I found one and it needed a motor I would have to think about it for awhile.

Love Darts, but I gotta admit if the Magnum is in decent shape, I'd just build that. It'd be a sweet comfy cruiser.
They ain't building any more of them, and there won't be another one at the car show...
360 engines aren't that hard to come up with.
If the Magnum is a total roach coach, then sure- cannibalize it.
Mounts are different, oil pan should work, ex. manifolds may not.
Trans may be a lockup A999, use it in it's entirety. It will bolt in using all the Dart's 904 hardware, including driveshaft.

California keeps me from really liking anything newer than 75.
