Brainstormin' 440 vs 5.9 ...

Black Friday sale at Speedmaster is right around the corner.... see what they have (I won't buy their BB heads)
The trouble with sm bbm heads is the rpm copies are gone. The ones they have now are Victor copies, and use offset rockers.
They are a bunch bigger than tf's even. I think the cnc version are 320cc intake runner. (WAY too big fur a 7.4 motor, lol).

yeah, I said in a earlier post I won't buy them. I did buy them once a couple years ago

I am kinda wondering.... LOL. That would be fun, take guesses on a stock RV 440 in the truck. Probably get everything in guesses from 16.9 all the way down to a fried mind guessing 11.2's :D
I think 16.9 is generous.
He doesn’t like the chatter of small block talk. He was much happier when he thought you had made your decision and it was big block time.

16.9 is generous... :D love it We're talking about pistons and rings for the 440 and he bangs his head on the wall?? That's fishmen

I’ve seen smogger 440s with headers and a 4 barrel run slower than that in lighter cars.

If I put that 440 in the truck as is, and it makes a clean pass at 16.9 or slower, I will drop it from the hoist at 6 ft to the concrete, put a picture of my mug on the block, give my wife a sludge hammer and say have at it live on youtube.

I can’t wait.

I don’t know what is expected from a low compression short block, usually 7.5-1 cr and a reproduction 375 hp cam. Save your money unless you can put compression and cam in it!

What ring would you run with them?
I think you can buy the pistons with rings. Moly will work. I wouldn't buy anything yet until you have a plan on paper. Are you keeping it standard bore? Do you have a new a budget figured out yet? I think you blew up the $500 budget already

well, if/when I go new pistons, probably should go .030 over since the one cylinder had rust. But, if/when I do pistons, then we'll be looking at a street friendly (pump gas in the very least) but making a little trq/hp. Did you have a part number in mind?

You don't need mid/high CR to make power, airflow makes power cr just squeezes more out of it sure 10.5 or even 13.5+ would be better but no reason you can't make 400-450+ hp with reasonable mods.
