Brainstormin' 440 vs 5.9 ...

This is a similar build. 440 stock stroke, stealth heads. re-cut seats, clean up bowls, .050 quench, 10.4:1, comp XE 274H, 750 holley, 1 7/8 headers. Numbers on this sheet are corrected to sae j607.

Nice results, interesting when compared to IQ52 450 hp low cr 440, higher cr 440 needed 500-600 rpms less to make similar power.
 
This is a 440 that was built with the forged TRW low compression pistons, it has all the old school tricks for making power for cheap. Meaning the 452 heads have been I unshrouded and blended along with port matching and shaved to 80cc.
They had mopar SS 1.81/2.14 valves and now they’re Manlys. The spring keeper and retainers were replaced at the same time as the cam. I’ve been using mopars cast rockers that I’ve had for years.
The block is a 1970 block is a hp charger it’s been bored 60 , crank 10-10, Hemi oil pick up, melling HV oil pump that’s blended, polished stock rods with good bolts. The cam is a bit of a compromise because of the compression it’s a little too much duration

but it works, it’s the Mopar 5.57 lift mechanical that I had NOS. The TF heads are big bucks and they should have a good short bock under them, I’ve seen them make 750 on a 4.25 stroke 383 but not a low ball project.
I’ve never been impressed with 440source heads, I’ve seen plenty of problems you would think they could make more power. The best numbers for this engine were 545/525 but I can’t find the sheet. I’ve made 645hp/620tq with 915 heads so I don’t see the need for dropping $2500+ for heads for a street strip car that doesn’t need to run a certain number. My Volare is capable of running low tens going to the DQ..

I’m almost certain that if @318willrun builds a $6500 440 then the truck will be faster than what it was with a junkyard 5.9. Is that where we are now? I thought we had a $500 budget? I’m confused
Well, I'm really leaning at this point to run it as the RV 440 smog motor that it is before "building it". We'll see. Give me your honest ET guess if I do this .... Because I have no idea what a smogger RV 440 will run in a D150

LOL.... it will replace the 5.9 in our truck. So as the truck sits.... I think I pretty much wrote it all out early in the thread. Smogger as in smog '77 RV 440 .... factory cam, factory pistons, factory crank, 452 heads ... (I do have a single plane and the factory cast, so either of those with the 750 DP from the 5.9)

I’ll give it a honest 14.7 once it’s squared away in stock form.

Hard to tell, IQ52 got 309hp with M1 headers and a summit cam, so shouldn't even hit 300 hp with stock cam, that's got to be 40-60 hp less than you got now. Guessing mid/high 13's.
