Just had a quick question.

Out of necessity, I’m switching my 72 demon steering back from 73 parts to 72 parts. My new center link (the more silver one pictured) seems to have one end that has more of a pronounced curve up then the other side. Does anyone know off the top of their head which side goes to which side of the car? The service manual picture is impossible for me to see which side is which.

Thanks in advance

I think the way the outter eyes are on an angle, it will probably only fit one way.
I have seen alot of center links, and never noticed that .Now I have to go look at all mine !

And so those outer eyes are definitely on an angle, but they connect to the tie rods, so those are easily spun to fit. The inner eyes hit the pitman arm and idler arm, so they don’t have any real give on where they should be.
I just don’t want to snug this thing up there and then have to picklefork them off and ruin components if I didn’t throw it on there right the first time.

Been there, and you're correct.

Cost me a set of new tie rod ends

the taper on the inner eyes should be the tell for which way it goes-- it'll only go onto the pitmam/idler fully one way.

(if it wasn't pouring outside, i'd go look for you)

ETA: the manual shows the tie rods ends installing from the front (nuts to the driver), so given the taper, that would indicate it installs that way.

Well to install a 72 link , you also have to change the pitman and idler arm.
Yes sir, those have been changed also. From the K frame out to the tie rods have been swapped to 72 parts again.

I’ll get out there today and try to mock it up without snugging it up.

If any chance anyone with a 72 center link can sneak out today and take a peak on their car and report back, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks again!

Due to the engine being offset 1 1/4 to the right side . The dip in the bar favors the right , so the short end goes toward the passenger side. Otherwise the bar will hit the oil pan. If you measure the dip it is 1 1/4 difference to compensate for the engine offset. I thought this would be a no brainer for all the know it alls.
