I seem to remember a couple of brackets are different
on early to later fenders, but otherwise are they the identical
except for marker lights ( I do not care about that )?

No, the distance to the front of the hood is different. Not to mention the shape of the front fender edge. If you swap the entire front clip, hood, header panel, bumper, etc, it will work.

That’s not true exactly.

The 71/72 fenders are the same length as the 73-76 if you include the length of the fender extensions on the 71/72 fender. So overall, they’re the same basic dimensions with the extensions included. The hood is shorter on the 73+ cars but the header panel makes that up, the fender length isn’t different.

The biggest difference is the bumper relief and lower valance. The 73+ fenders don’t have a lower valance at all, they just used the really tall bumper. So if you wanted to use the 73+ Dart or Dart Sport fenders on a 71/72 Demon you’d have to reshape the bumper relief area and change the whole lower front section to accept the lower valance.

Plus I’m sure some bracket and mounting hole differences for the grille, etc.

another big problem is a 71-72 demon dart has a fender extension and the 73-76 cars don't have one, it's all one piece. A body guy can make it work but it won't be right.

So cut the front of the fender off, make a flange and use the extension?

How hard is it to find a 4 door dart parts car 70-72? LOL it's not easy.

First picture is a Duster, whole different deal. Duster fenders are the same for the whole run except for the marker lights and a few brackets.

For the Dart fenders, if you insisted it look exactly like a 70-72 fender, sure, you’d have to fit the extension. But that wasn’t the question.

If you’re not worried about it being “correct” you just leave the upper part of the fender alone. 67-69 was one piece, 73-76 was one piece, the 70-72 fender with the extension attached are the same length as the other ones.

But yeah, you’d have to re-do the lower front section with a flange to accommodate the lower valance if you wanted the 70-72 bumper, and reshape that bumper relief.

It’d be easier to find the 70-72 fenders and extensions. But if you had the 73+ fenders and can run the tin snips, a hammer and a dolly you could rework those fenders cheaper if you didn’t care about the time.

Thanks!

I am buying a SS/JA 73 Dart from an old friend who
is retiring. In the future, we will be converting it to a
Demon to run a High Compression 340. I know that
we will have to redu the lights as well. I did not know
the bottom of the fender was different as we must run
the Demon front bumper. That sound like a real problem.
I am an awful body guy!
