Looking for tips. Going to get a front end alignment done on the old 68. I used to read in magazines sometimes that you could play with caster and camber a bit to make these old girls handle a little better. Can't remember now what they did. Anybody know of any tips or secrets that I can pass along to my alignment guy? I find most of these guys just want to get the car in,check toe in and out the door. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

yea thats what they do here also, set the toe and go......theys don't want to take the time amd measure frame height and so on.....Hopefully the upper control arms bolts move freely....If not you will have to replace them...Which isn't cheap if you have a shop do it....

the reasons they do that are very simple...they do not have the experience...toe and go is great for rice burners but not the oldies ..caster and camber are adjustable and require adjustment..a little tweeking of the caster in the neg will give you a slightly better road feel...

You will only get about 2* positive caster out of stock arms/bushings. If you want more, put in the moog problem solver bushings in the uca's. At best put a 1/2* neg camber and about 1/16" of toe in.

I would recommend you loosen the nuts off for all your adjustments and put some never seize on them even on the tie rods will save the guy tons of time and hopefully make him do that much better of a job. It took a local shop 3 hours to do my allignment can't complain since I had the whole front end apart but he was very appreciative of the never seize on the parts

Have them start with the front cam all the way out and the rear cam all the way in. Move the rear cam out until camber is in spec (1/2 deg. neg is good). This is the most positive caster that is available without new parts (offset bushings, tubular upper control arms, etc.). All of this is AFTER setting ride height. I usually set ride height with about an inch between the LCA bumper and the frame, then even the sides up.
