Document everything before you send that motor back. Have the shop that has it now take pictures and detail their findings. Once Superior gets their hands on the motor, all of the evidence becomes suspect. I would also refrain from stating how far you drove the car when the noise started...

Correct me if I'm wrong (new to A bodies) but the VIN# didn't correspond to the stampings on the rad. support or trunk rail until 1969. At least that's how it is for B bodies. The numbers on the rad. support, trunk rail, fender tag and build sheet should match, but not to the VIN.
