couldnt say. just a tiny puff. the cluster was grounded. I suspect i reversed my + and - leads and ran positive through the ground, and it grounded out the gas sending unit pin. but would that necessarily over heat a guage?
would a simple test of continuity across each gauge verify that the guages are still functioning? I just ran into the same situation on a bench workup of
my dash cluster. Tiny puff of smoke , not sure where it came from but the wire traces on pc board are good, and have continuity across...
Re. Mattax's excellent diagram, do the parking lights and headlights get power from the black wire? And if so, they are not fused?
And why not supply power to them via the pink, fused line? I can understand the headlights drawing too much power relative to the dash and dome lights...
You could fabricate one. But as far as keeping the torsion, you might need a springy steel. Someone good with steel/welding could
better advise you. Mine was broken. I'll check to see if I welded it together, or had to add a new end.

I have a 3100 lb Dart wagon with 9 inch rears and the front disc upgrade. Manual brakes. In city driving I need less leg "excercise" to stop quickly than did with the front drums - no doubt! Highway? At 70 the discs stop adequately on busy I 75 , but I haven't had to try evasive, emergency...
