Thinking the bronze bushing in the block wasn't sized right. You can see how it was wearing on the shaft also. Plan on replacing it when going back through it.

I was running 10w-30. Engine builder said usually gets 20,000 out of them.

I agree with you on how easy it is to eliminate the ballast to make a RTR distributor to work. In addition MSD recommends adding a relay to insure you have 12 volts to the coil at all times just in case with 50 year old switches and wiring your not getting the full 12 volts to the coil as...

So are you thinking the bushing didn't get reamed to size and it was too tight of a fit causing premature failure of the bronze gear. After the fact my engine builder said he usually gets about 20,000 miles out of them. He did send me a new mellonized drive gear and set of lifters.

I would recommend using a mellonized drive gear. I didn't even get 2000 miles out of a milodon bronze drive gear. Plugged most of my roller lifters and collapsed them. In the process of pulling motor to take apart and inspect bearings and replace as needed.

I recently did a swap in my 71 satellite Sebring Plus. 318, 904 trans to 440, 727 trans. 20-20 hindsight I would have done stroker to 390 with the 318. All the different brackets, headers, trans lines, etc. Really blew the budget. Can't beat the wow factor of a 440 6BBL.

Have my 6 pack coil mounting bracket off, The two studs measure 3-3/8" to the outside of them. If that helps. Brad
