yes its probably the big o ring leaking, i rebuilt mine a couple yrs back and the hardest part for me was removing and reinstalling the pulley. its not really that bad of a job.

i just put on a jegs 2.5" system 2 weekends ago on mine and i have a good deep tone from it. it runs all the way to the bumpers. i think that jegs and summitt both probably use the same mufflers , i dont think the carbon buildup will help any.

on my 74 the upper plastic trim piece is seperate from the door panel. i have to remove the door panel first after removing the window handle, armrest, etc. then the panel pulls loose , its being held by the clips but it also tucks up under the plastic trim piece about 1/8 ". then you will...

something you might want to do is weld in a baffle on the back side of the sump to control oil slosh on acceleration. here is a factory type:

i think you should use the smaller cam, but how are you going to get the compression up 7 tenths of a point , i dont see how you can do this easily. even head milling and the shim gasket might get you an lncrease of only .5 i believe.
