    Hard starts after running

I'm not getting too carried away until I decide the future of this '69 340 in the garage. In the meantime, I'm learning as much as possible. My winter plans are, chassis stiffening, rear end spring perches, might change center section, maybe torque converter or transmission. Whichever is...

    Hard starts after running

That is fantastic information, and I appreciate the time you took to explain it clearly. so after adjusting my transfer slots, my 318 is happy @ 14 initial @ 750rpm in park. So, I would want to set up my distributor with a spring that is light enough to quickly advance from idle (14*) to the...

    Hard starts after running

Okay.. so quick timing question. These guys saying "all in by 2 grand" or "at the stall" that's only drag racing? And I actually want the curve that continues to pull slowly after 2700 or so? There is so much conflicting info out here. I'm not 100% bought in to any theory... at the...

    Hard starts after running

I really didn't mean to make this thread about me. That being said, I agree that a new fuel filter with a bypass can only help things. I'm going to grab one next trip into town. Carb already has an insulated spacer. And I don't plan on using the fbo plate for anything more than testing...

    Hard starts after running

So I do have a 727, tci shift kit, 2200ish stall (needs replaced). 3.73 gears. Had 36 degrees timing trimmed to all in at @ 2400rpm before carb idle procedure. After setting carb idle I'm sitting @ 31 degrees. So I will fix that when I'm happy with idle. Took it for a spin after setting...

    Hard starts after running

I didn't know what I didn't know. It makes more sense, setting the transfer slot and adjusting the initial to bring the rpm into line. Instead of using the idle screw to account for a timing number. following the procedure outlined by AJ, I just pulled 5 degrees initial out, from 19 to 14...

    Hard starts after running

Sorry guys, I wasn't trying to revive an old thread. Simply replying to the idle set up AJ mentioned above. It peaked my interest.

    Hard starts after running

Put my 318 together back when I was 17, around '03. I have no clue on my cam specs. I remember telling the guy I wanted the most aggressive cam I could use without head work. If that helps. The car sounds good, but runs a bit soft until I hit 3,000 with a 2200ish stall. If that info helps...

    Hard starts after running

Dude.... this is a completely different approach to idle set up from anything I've read before. I'm genuinely curious, just might be my Sunday project. The thread fizzled out and no one replied, but thanks for that write up.

    FBO plate over advancing

This is exactly what I decided last night. Found what advance slot the engine likes. This weekend, I'm going to weld and file the the Tbar to match and toss the plate in the glove box. Probably not necessary, but it will ease my mind.

    FBO plate over advancing

can someone verify these numbers are correct? Either my old caliper is off, the fbo plate or the chart.

    FBO plate over advancing

Yup, that sounds more like the right concept. Thank you. Looks relatively close here.

    FBO plate over advancing

Has to be crank, 16* at the distributor would be a larger slot than the t-bar.

    FBO plate over advancing

one more observation: Halifax got me thinking, my tbar is a 15, so 30* at the crank. I wanted 16* at the crank, so roughly half the slot. The picture below has the 16* slots under the tbar. The inside of both pieces are flush, the fbo plate should restrict the travel by more than it does...
