Salter Racing Engines, 383 502 Hp & Tq

Displacement automatically adds power by increasing tq, all else being equal. Hp per cid is going to depend on what other mods are done.

what plugs to run in my 440

NGK 5 heat range for general performance & drag racing. Alum heads conduct heat better than iron, so will pull more heat out of the plugs.

Salter Racing Engines, 383 502 Hp & Tq

What I have noticed about the 'stroker' engines, no matter the brand: 400 SBM, 383 Chev, 347 Ford. They all produce more HP than non-stroked engines of the same cubes/family........and......they all have smaller rod/stroke ratios.

    EI vs Points

I am old too, but would not use points. Last time I used points was 1974 [ or was it 1975....]. If you are doing a lot of mileage, EI is a definite winner. The rubbing block on the points starts wearing down at the first turn of the key; it retards ign causing lost power & mileage. As far as EI...

64 Valiant slant six road racer

Valiants were raced here since the early 60s. At the main Super Car events throughout the year, they often include a Historical race category. Usually at least one Valiant in it.

    Starting spot for jets...

They all vary, no hard & fast rule. While the signal is 'smaller' from a smaller engine, it also doesn't need as much fuel because the cyl size is smaller & contains less air, so less fuel.

Can use some Thermostat and Rad Cap advice

Production engines have a safety bypass in the cooling system in case the stat jams shut. A portion of the returning coolant is bypassed to the feed side of the pump. The bypass is pretty big on the SB, so you might see some flow at idle when cold. If no stat, I would use a 180. If you think...

How Much Pre-load When Adjusting Hydraulic Lifters (using 273 rocker arms)?

You need to consider three aspects of the adjustment: - the hyd lifters have adjustment from zero to about 0.180". Anywhere within that range will work. - the large range of adjustment will also affect final valvetrain geometry. - with those particular rockers, you need to check the thread...

    1958 Dodge

I loved the castellated tail light housings on the 58. So much so, that I found a set & replaced the ordinary looking front parkers on my 61 Dodge with them.

    RPM drop and electric fans!

If the car has power brakes, a Tee piece can be fitted to the booster hose for MVA.

    727 Drum

I also mentioned rotating weight helps the most [ post #31 ]. Removing static weight can help acceleration but it needs to be a substantial amount to be measured or felt. There is reason Nascar racers use 6-8" clutches......
