i always ran the 273 factory adjustable rockers

from experince,get 8 blade water pump,clutch fan should go, alum rad knocks about 10 to15 degrees off. also i bought a alum balancer pulley looks great but car ran hot and had to put factory pulley back on. also the water wetter jegs or summit sell helps to

i got mine at local auto store ,smallblock with a/c is a 8 blade but they also make 2 different ones for lower hose right or left side

lifter must be pumped up or another words full of oil before valves are adjusted

doulbe check cam timing, check pushrod lenght. i would say lifters were not pumped up and when they did made rockerarms to tight and then bent the pushrods.

i would check pushrod lenght,make sure you adjusted valves on right stroke of motor.i bent a couple on start up due to not all the way done in the lifter seat

also make sure that the plug in the back of the lifter galley is in also.if you had the block clean they remove that plug and may have not replaced it.

head studs wii create this promblem to.make sure you rotate very slow and keep drill running .
