That grey looking stuff is actually silicone. I am going to try to peel it off this weekend and see if i can figure out why this guy did this. Actually the previous owner is running the local cruise ins now. So next time I see him I am going to ask him

@dustuoff- it turned out to be the ignition switch. replaced switch and tumblers starts fine now

thanks everyone. I gave up and called in some help. he hauled it to his garage and after tinkering awhile he went to try and start it and it fired right up. however as soon as he left off the key it shut off. he tried again then it fired and stayed running as long as he held the key still. as...
