how strong is the 8 3/4 #741 case?

I I don't think the total length is as important as the spring perches would be. Get a measurement, grind them off and move them into the correct locations and weld then back on the tubes. It may even help for tire clearance.

My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

It has the 67' 273 valve covers, so someone tried to make it look like a 273. First thing I would do before driving it is, change the thermostat housing. Those chrome ones always leak.

    318 gurus/historians

Hope they went to a good home and are being used, as they should be. I had 4 and sold 2 so they can be used. I have one in my car (in the photo) and one for a back up. maybe going to put it in a special vehicle one day, if I don't get too old first. LOL

How much power will a stock 904 handle

I coul I could be wrong but I had a few B200 and B300 vans and they were all 727's with a 8 3/4 rear or dana 60. The rears will fit in a "B" body. Just a 1/2 inch wider, I believe. Many years ago. The dana's were 8 lugs, so could not be used easily.

Help me decide on a floor jack

Tt That is the one I have, low profile 3 ton aluminum, costs around $180. Had it for 5 years and picks the front end of my 2500 Cummins Truck with no problem. Had two Lincons and the seals go out after a couple years.

    318 gurus/historians

My book says the block is a 318, race engine, around 77'-78'. The heads appear to be the same time frame. Should be painted orange, which surprises me, because most engines were blue or black back then.

Street Outlaw star dies in wreck.

A true statement. Some people "LOVE" the thrill of dangerous hobbies. Any kind of racing, sky diving, boxing or any other hard sports. Many die or are injured in NASCAR. Indy or even your local Roundy, rounds. It's a chance you take to have your personal run. Driving on the interstate is a...

Got a new Truck (new to me)

I know the 78-79 "Little red Express" had the four barrel set-up in trucks, as well as the "War locks", which also had the 440's in 79', I believe the only year. Vans also had some Bib Boy motors, but the linkage were different as in solid linkage and not cable.

Got a new Truck (new to me)

I had the same issue with my 72' van conversion, 318 2bbl to a 340, 4 bbl. The parts will work with a little adjustments. On the kickdown slide, I had to add a nut and bolt for a stop to make it work correctly. I recall, I had to bend the intake bracket for a better aliment for the throttle...

    Intake Manifolds

I run a Holley Street Dominator on my mild build 70' 340 and well please with it. I also like its "low profile" to fit under my dog house in my van. I also don't like cutting and scooping a hood.

Got a new Truck (new to me)

Vans had the same issue with the power steering mounts, specially with larger tires. Had mine welded 3 times.

Big Valve X Heads on Low Comp 72 340

Not sure on how this became my comment, but it is not. Mine was, I have "Z" and "O" heads on my vans 340. I believe they are from 1970 and from a "E" body. They appear to me the same format as the "X" heads. 2.02/1.60

Big Valve X Heads on Low Comp 72 340

There is a difference between the "J" and "X" heads. "J" heads came on early 360's and I (had done) use to machine them into 2.02's. The trucks ran better, but I also installed a 4 bbl intake and headers on them. Maybe that is the reason they ran better.
