    Replacing 1963 Valiant starter

Thanks to everyone that replied, I'm going down to Blacey's some time this week. The reason I'm temporarily replacing mine is because mine is going sluggish when it turns the flywheel, I'm just afraid it's going to the the thing. With an luck, I'll have my car cranking normally but the weekend.

    Replacing 1963 Valiant starter

Hey there, I have a 1963 Valiant sedan base model with the 170 engine, my starter is just fine, but I want to switch it with a more powerful one, does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

1964 Valiant V200 Glove box door, and Dash trim

Hey there, I have a spare Glove box door, and Dash trim emblem up for sale. I have them also listed on eBay under my name wunderwhy85. These came with my 63 Valiant when I first bought it a couple years ago, didn't have need to sale or trade them because I was waiting to to swap them for stuff I...

    Can't get engine to crank

I started out by putting 4 quarts into the engine through where you're supposed to, before I tried turned anything, then people said to remove the sparkplugs, and put oil in through there too. I did that as well. Where they said to put the oil in, you can't see the cylinders what-so-ever as some...

    Can't get engine to crank

well, turns out because of the chipping of the crow bar it was no longer slim enough for the teeth of the flywheel, so I bought a new one, and I've done at least 16 full rotations of the flywheel. I can hear how dry the cylinders are, so I'm guessing the best thing I can do is put oil in the...

    Can't get engine to crank

Well turns out the starter did go bad, replaced it and it's not running still, then the cable pretty much broke in my hands. But I was FINALLY able to turn my flywheel, so there's still hope, I guess I wasn't using a big enough crowbar for prying. The damn thing is strong so though, it keeps...

    Can't get engine to crank

RedFish, not to be, or sound rude, but I don't care about the starter right now, the crank shaft isn't moving freely at all with the starter out of the motor, so it's not the starter. Also I already did the test with the starter like everyone else in this thread have suggested, and it turned...

    Can't get engine to crank

Well I got a weak little attempt by the car to turn over. So the rotating of the crank is definitely starting to work. Hopefully, I can get it turning over, and started soon.

    Can't get engine to crank

It's still going rough, but it's easing up a bit. I've got it to go nearly three full rotations, I'm hoping another rotation or so, I can actually crank it. It didn't want to turn over when I turn it the first rotation.

    1963 Valiant interior

Where would I look to find out what the material my seats' fabric is? I'm looking to replace the entire interior, and I'm looking to get close to the original material, because mine are totally screwed over. My 63 Valiant is the Sedan, base model, no special upgrades. Also I'd much rather it be...

    Can't get engine to crank

I know it's been awhile, but I went with the kerosene trick, instead of diesel, and got the crank pulley to move half a rotation, nearly killing myself in the process with how hard it was. I had to use my broken fan belt to do it to, I wrapped it around the bottom of the crank pulley then up to...

    Can't get engine to crank

So I'm guessing that it's seized, nothing I tried makes anything at all move. So I guess the next part is to strip the engine to the block to get to the crankshaft and piston and all that nice stuff, huh?

    Can't get engine to crank

The clicking is the sound of the starter trying to engage the flywheel. I see the marks that are being made on both the flywheel gear, and the gear in the starter. Every connection is tight, and clean, these were the first things I did, I made sure that there was nothing wrong with the...

    Can't get engine to crank

I sanded down the spot on the block so it was clean metal, and the starter was new, so I didn't see a reason to sand it down, especially when the bolt on it was bare metal. As for the other comments, I'll try the pry bar next, if that does nothing, then I'll remove the front pulley. Only...

    Can't get engine to crank

I tried all the ways people have said, besides the flywheel. I can't get a socket onto the crank bolt because there's two pulleys involved with it, I need to know if I should remove the front most pulley to access it. I'll try and get real pictures of the problem tomorrow when it's light out...
