    Runs a bit lean...

I think you guys were right about the jet flow. I took the carb off and gave it another once-over with the carb/choke cleaner. Any hole on that thing got a good spray. Its now holding idle in park and at the light. Naturally, the nature of the carb will function differently with a temp change...

    Runs a bit lean...

Not to my knowledge. The mechanic I go to is quite thorough and a vacuum leak wasn't even a concern. He assumed it was a fuel problem, hence the reason I replaced the upstream lines and filter (as well as a carb rebuild).

    Runs a bit lean...

After the head rebuild, I the slant in for a bit of professional maintenance. Timing was dialed in, compression (although I don't have the numbers from the test) came back in good health, and a tune-up was made. Something the matter, though, is that the carb (an early Holley 1920) is acting up...

    2bbl conversion for slant six

I'll hop on and bring up an additional point of curiosity. Which air cleaner would clear the hood? The stock /6 air cleaner won't fit the BBD, and the 318 air cleaner is too large for an A/C setup. What are you guys doing in this scenario?

    Troubleshooting Head Components

A quick question: I've reviewed a few videos online to mentally prepare myself for the installation, and I noticed half of the guys were adding oil through the oil galleries. Is that totally necessary? Or should I just pour in like usual?

    Troubleshooting Head Components

Allow me to rephrase. I understand the exhaust side runs hotter, but from the research I've made, mine has been running hotter than usual. Before upgrading the radiator and the fan, I was regularly on the verge of overheating. So far, I've only had one instance in the summer where I was getting...

    Troubleshooting Head Components

Just heard back from the shop. Milling went well and the bare minimum was taken off. Apparently the head wasn't as warped as I had initially thought. He took a good look at the rest of the head and found that the exhaust guides were all in rough shape, which may account for the reason they were...

    Whaddya think about these plugs?

For my own curiosity and for the OP, how many points hotter should it be? I've personally never tried this.

    Whaddya think about these plugs?

I've got a '74 slant that came with the 1945. It ran significantly better with a late 60's 1920. No more hesitation upon acceleration.

    Troubleshooting Head Components

Hey gang, just a thought while the head is being finished. Progress has been slow due to the freeze we had last week. In the meantime, I considered the sludge lingering on the oil pan side of things. Naturally, a change (as mentioned) is in order once the machine is back together. In order to...

    Troubleshooting Head Components

So far, I’ve only cut one knuckle in the process. Usually it’s eight. I’m liking the odds so far! lol I’ll keep everyone posted once it is finished. I’ll also post some progress on the block side if things.

When I see him again, I'll be sure to ask. Pretty sure he was going to focus on that one and potentially a few more if they are not as precise as he would like. I'm also certain it won't be incredibly invasive.

    Troubleshooting Head Components

Hey gang. I’m back. Update on the project is this: I took the head to a good family friend to get his ten cents on the subject. After some evaluation, we realized the exhaust valve guide on the 4th cylinder was giving us trouble, hence the severe build up and evidence in the exhaust manifold. He...
