Well folks I have my hands on a four barrel, It's a Carter AFB and the stamped numbers are (1809 9636SA) which I believe to be a 625cfm with Mopar linkage. It has electric choke and in really great condition! Picked up for a song from a fellow Mopar club member.

I am in need of a rebuild kit of good quality! Anyone know of a brand name to look for? Or are they all about the same? Any suggestions on cleaning, proper cleaner etc? Any good books on the rebuild/tuning aspect? I did find an SA published book on these and the Edelbrock clones.

Thanks and Mopar On!

I rebuilt the same carb then sold it on Ebay, before I knew about this site, lost my butt on it too, I got the Hygrade kit from Mancini, had everything needed to r&r the carb, #224D $29.95.

might check this out.
Daytona and Hygrade kits have been recommended to me. I recently used a Daytona kit, was pleased with it beside the fact that it didnt have a gauge for float adjustment, but really a ruler is all you need for that.

Thanks guys! I will use a 7/16ths drill git for the float adjustment. Just a trick I have learned so far!

I got a gallon of Gunk Carb cleaner, works fine, I rebuilt the rochester carb in my boat and a mikuni carb for a 250 Kawasaki AND the afb, using the same gallon of gunk. they are all aluminium carbs.

I always liked Berryman ChemDip back in the day. Don't know if you can still get it or not. DON'T spill it in a small room! Ask me how I know!

Personally I never thought much of "Gunk" and I used to sell their products!!

Berryman used to be good. Years ago I used to use "Mechanics Brand" came in a blue and white can. I'm sure (if you can find it) it's not as strong as it used to be

I used the cleaner auto zone sells had it for 3 yrs several carbs and many bolts and small parts later it still works. I bought a 13 qt roast pan to fit the carb in, then put the cleaner back in the can afterwords.

And put the roast pan back in the kitchen cabinet? ;-)

Napa sell a nice carb cleaning kit for about $20.00.
It is a gallon can with a basket built in with this thick heavy cleaner in it.

You can re-use it alot, the worst carb I ever rebuilt was one of an old 72 or 73 honda CB 360.
My buddies grandfather bought it new, rode it for about 6000 miles and parked it.
The last inspection sticker was in 1979.
When I cleaned the carbs and tank a couple of years ago, there was so much varnish in the carbs that the slides in the carbs would not move and the floats were stuck in the down position.
It took about 2 months of soaking, but both carbs cleaned up like new, and the bike will always start on the first or second kick.
