Hi Guys,

This week a customer apears in my shop with a big issue.

Another shop built for him a 318 Twin turbo, the engine makes around 750 lb.ft. of torque!!!!!! In the engine everything were built properly....but the mechanic forgot one big thing....a good clutch. He spent a lot of money on it and still not happy.
The costumer wants to drag race on the weekends and drive on streets with family, so the clutch should grab a lot on strip and also with slippage/modulation on street.

I`ll be glad to hear some advices of experienced guys.
:burnout:

Look into a twin disc clutch set up. I think Centerforce has one, but McLeaod certainly does.
Go to *I think it was* Mr.gasket.com and scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit up the links there.

Thanks for your tip ruble.

Yeah, I look some double disc clutch. And now I'm not sure what disc material is the best for this application....organic or carbon.

Any one using carbon discs?

he'll never see the full potential (750 ft lbs torque) until
he switches to an automatic transmission.
it will just be a toy that breaks a lot.....

Centerforce makes some badass clutches. They have weights on the clutch fingers that use centrifugal force to make the clutch disc(s) hold. In other words, the higher the RPM, the harder the clutch grips. They do have dual disc units that most certainly will take that kind of horsepower. They are not cheap. It will probably need to be custom made because I am not certain any of their off the shelf units will withstand that. Since however, they provide clutches for 10,000 plus horsepower top fuel dragsters, I am sure they can help your customer.

we bought a mcload twin disc for around 800 i think, they recommend using a aluminum flywheel to help with the shock load on the trans...

also unless your running a pro-shifted 833 18 spline its not gonna last very long, and if it is... it wont last much longer lol...

should look into a jerico or something...

we going thru this with out 700hp race hemi/833 pro-shifted in the Mr. Norms Car...

Can you take some photos of the set up and post them?? Maybe ask the customer if it is ok. I am sure alot of guys here would like to see how they squeezed the twins in there.

I'd love to see some pics of this thing myself. sounds badass.

I use a Center force and launch hard at 6500 rpm. I know it is no where near the 750 ft lbs of torque but they are nice. I was told that I should look into an Mcleod soft loc clutch, it is supposed to be more forgiving on launch, that is where you client wants to be I believe you stated.
You might want to give Rob Youngblood a call and ask him, he is supposed to be the guru of clutches etc.

here is a link to his site.
