I'm getting ready to roll this under my 68 cuda this summer after a four plus years of waiting for my car at the body shop. This is a Mopar Performance 340 resto block 4 bolt main motor (non-siamese) that's been stroked to a 410 with Eddy heads, Air gap intake, Holley Street Avenger 770 cfm,MSD ignition and a TKO 600, resting on top of a Control Freak IFS. Motor is dynoed and ready to rock top hp was 478.7 @ 5600 rpm and 447 ft/lb TQ.
Torque peak 498.1 ft/lbs @ 4500 rpms with 427 hp. I've heard horror stories about shifting these transmissions over 6000 rpm but wht would I want to? This was not a drop in and go process! I did extensive work to hump and crossmember to make it all happen. I will be running 3:91 gears with a Cal Trac mono leaf suspension. I had to fess up to the wife that I do have $1500.00 or so into the drive train:toothy8:

I found out a long time ago that it's sometimes better to keep actual costs of the build out of our relationship! Never disclose the facts if you can get out of it by watching a lame a$$ movie and telling her how beautiful she looks...

Very nice stuff. I'd like to put a altercation suspension in my 67 this winter.

They have a very good product as well, I will be installing one in my buddies 70 Super Bee this summer. I will wait to see how that all works out before I put one into my Bee

Talk to Abodyjoe he has both the alterKation and street lynx setup in his dart and says he loves it. More details about how it rides and stuff just shoot him a pm. There is also another member here that has the alterKation and street lynx setup but using airbags (wanna say it's cudamark, but don't quote me on that). Abodyjoe is using coilovers.

X2 on that price. That alterKation setup is what 4-5k by itself.

thats a control freak set up. its a knock off of the alter-k in round tube. infact they bought an alter-k and made a jig for it and just used round tube to build it.

you will be surprised at how easy the alter-k installs. and once you drive his car you will be on the phone ordering one for yourself.. :)

Alter-K on B-body cars. I just heard a horror story from a fellow mopar drag racer out of Chicago who has had issues with his Alter-K when braking at 100 mph. K -member broke and he has had several alignments which resulted in some serious $ but he has also stated that they made good on the broken k-member and are working on getting the bugs out of the system. This is a race car, that he was referring to. This should possibly be on the B Body forum but I thought I would run it by you guys first?

sweet setup. i just put a tko600 in my duster this winter. you might want to rethink the 3:91 though. my early suregrip took a dump on me last week before a race(auto-x) and i had a 3:91/detroit locker setup ready to go on the shelf and threw it in to make the weekend. i am running 17x9's on the back with roadrace tires and it will blow them out easy in first and second. i had a 3:55/suregrip and liked it better, not so quick to blowout the tires, but the car still hauled ***. just a suggestion. i will be selling my detroit and 3:91 soon. any other pics of the rest of the car?

Thats some nice hardware, think your going to be very happy when its all together and running.

I have a 2 year old TKO600 in a road race mustang and no problems. Although we don't really shift the car above 6K rpm. I think most of those problems shifting was the older TKO600 from 6+ years ago.

If you have problems with the TKO shifting, call Walt at Promotion Performance. He took the time to explain the internal upgrades that help with high rpm shifting up to 8000 rpm. I have not done the upgrades (not running yet, waiting to see if I have a problem with it first), but I did buy a girdle off him for the TKO that is supposed to help avoid gear walk (?). $169. Cheap insurance, in my book. He's got TKO600's running 9.0's at 150+, and said that's about the limit of a built/modified tranny.

I've got a TKO600 behind a 500 c.i. 440 and regularly run it up to 6000 rpm with no issues with shifting. I've had it for several years now. I think you'll be fine especially since you've dynoed your engine and know exactly when it's making peak hp. I too am running a 3.91 gear. With a 28 inch rear tire and the high first gear of the TKO it's like running a 4.23 gear with the old four speed. Be sure to run a tall enough tire and you should be fine. You're going to like that combo. :burnout:
