im looking for a zinc additive for my 416 r3 flat tappet engine all i can get in my neck is the ac delco supplement 993104 and i use 15w40 shell rottella oil will this be enough zinc thanks all

Lucas has cam break in sauce, about 12 bucks for a pint.Comp cams has one as well. You can get these at a speed shop, or usually overnight from most parts stores.

Specifically formulated as an engine assembly lubricant. E.O.S. provides outstanding protection against run-in wear and piston scuffing as well as run-in camshaft lobe and lifter scuffing resulting from insufficient lubrication

I use Joe Gibbs hot rod oil. Has the zinc and also good for storing your car.

Pretty sure the Rotella has had the zinc removed from it.....

There has been a lot of discussion on additives to oil and it's debatable weather or not it is a good idea to use it AFTER break in. Some people and manufacturers say that the overall chemical composition of an additive may not blend well with some oils and could even be harmful. It's hard to say without long term use or chemical analysis.

Personally I would use an additive with zinc and a good conventional oil for break-in only. After that, I use an oil that has a considerable amount of zinc in it already from the manufacturer. In my case it is synthetic Amsoil Dominator 5w-20. But they have a wide variety of high zinc oils to fit about any need.

Amsoil tech bulliten and info on high zinc oils:

Amsoil has recently come out with their own specially formulated break-in oil that doesn't require additives:

Why not pull the flat tappet, stuff a roller cam in it and never worry about that additive again

comp cams additive

Comp Cams all the way. You can order it from Summitt or Jegs.
If your motor is broke in use Brad Penn oil and you won't need the additive.
If not Brad Penn Break In Oil.

I put a bottle of zddp plus at oil change , so far 12,0000 miles no problems . Use elf/total 5w-40 synthetic oil .
bought off e-bay
