Dart 67, had manual drums. I bought a used booster/master assy from someone here.
Everything hooked up okay, I DID replace the master with a rebuild as it had a bit too much "junk" in the rear reservoir. We bled the brakes and no vacuum leaks.
Still it's a hard pedal.
1.Anything to do with that "filter" assembly/gasket(?) between the master and booster?
2. Could the booster itself be bad even though there's no vacuum leak?
If so, who rebuilds these things OR is there a consumer rebuild kit available?
3. Something I could have missed?

Appreciate any thoughts here guys.

Check to see that the booster is actually getting vacuum with a vacuum gauge (18-22") at idle. If your car has an irratic idle with lots of duration/lift on the cam you may not be able to run a booster as your engine may not make enough vacuum

Thanks but I don't think that's it. It's a slant with stock factory cam.

lol sounds like the booster maybe the problem then. Is it getting proper vacuum? the hose could be partically pluged

I'm betting it is the booster. I pulled the hose off it and the engine died on the spot from the vacuum leak.

Check valve was okay.
I had a friend who diagnosed the "hard pedal" but he's totally unused to driving the older cars, with OR wothout power assist so there may not be a problem. Unfortunately,I won't be able to test it/drive it myself until next week. Might be a little bit better news then. Hope so anyway.

Appreciate your input Valiant.

I didn't see any adjustment/threads, or they are already cranked all the way in.

Check to make sure both push-rods are adjusted correctly.
Good point!!!
How far does your pedal go down,is the pedal all the way up or can you move further up.
Start the car and listen for a vacuum leak from behind the booster...

Hey guys,
I took a couple weeks away from it all and came to the decision that I'm putting the manual set-up back on.
Got some health issues that won't go away and I may have to sell the ol' girl to help cover them.
Thanks much for all your inputs!

I'm having this exact same problem with manual drum brakes. Pedal will only push down about an inch total and is rock solid. It has the correct master cylinder, been bled correctly, new wheel cylinders and correct hardware. I'm about to put a brake booster that I have on it to see if it'll help.
