Chrysler brings back the Dodge Dart

-
I was actually aware that GM tried to bring back the GTO. My first muscle car was a 68 Firebird which I still own. And I can tell you the Pontiac community was very disappionted with what GM came out with. It did not have anything to do with marketing. It was too expensive for the younger crowd and too ugly for the people who drove the originals.

I guess what I am saying is the problem I have isn't about how many cylinders my problem is the over all design

I think by bringing back the name it will help the prices of the classic darts and not hurt them... it is exposure and even if it turns out bad then it raises the bar of the originals.

ehhhhhhhh I think people need to start using the SEARCH button. I mean really. The news has been out SEVERAL days. This is an A body site. We have the internet too.

Sooo, what are the chances of 'em building approx. 50 Super Stock Hemi Darts lmao..........

I kinda like what I'm seeing so far... I bet it looks alot like a Fiat 500. It says it blends Alfa Romeo styling with Dodge performance... Will just have to wait and see. In a few years, im gonna be needing a new, gas efficient 4door. So the fact that it will look nothing like a 1969 Dart makes little difference to me.

AMEN BROTHER!!!!!
Cars are not going to be like they were from 67-73. Lets get over it. Government makes regulations, people want power and fuel economy. People cry about the Charger doiesn't look like a Charger they made, it's also not 1969, it's almost 2012. It's just a name.

Well then I guess you could lump the Corvette and a Chevette together! After all they are both Vettes! When they brought back the Camaro and the Challenger at least they were rear wheel drive, and the engine is North and South. What in the heck does the new Dart hold in common with the original? And hey, this is my opinion, I don't really care if you agree or not.

what the new dart has in common with the old one is : they both were ment to be inexpensive compacts. This is what was truely the success of the 67-76 dart and i think it will be the same for the new dart, now chrysler has something that can compete with the focuses, cobalts and corrollas, it helps that fiat has had much enfluence as it is in my opinion most americans do not feel the american auto maker can compete with the foreign market in quality. I hope the new Dart will change that mindset, and i hope it continues to remain as reliable as the dart nameplate was in the past- just my .02 cents.

It DID have to do with marketing. Pontiac severely neglected the 04-06 GTO with respect to it's other models at the time. They spent very little in that department only hoping to get by on the GTO nameplate alone. Unfortunately, the percentage of the Sports Car buying public who recognize the GTO nameplate is very small. Pontiac did a horrible job of educating the public on that car.

I thought the car looked good. In terms of cost, the 05'-06' had a $30,000 MSRP. you got a Corvette drivetrain in a coupe for that price. No other car between 05'-06' offered that kind of performance for that price. Not the Mustang or Corvette or the Dodge Charger/Magnum SRT8's. I thought about buying one back in 06'. I regret not buying one.

I bought a brand-new black SRT-4 in '04. Then I was planning on ordering a new '06 white ACR SRT-4. Problem was, they stopped production in '05. Dumb asses. I turned a 14.04 @ 98 MPH with my black one.....very freakin' cool, IMO and about the best $21K I ever spent. I would be a candidate for a new Dart if the numbers were right, price and speed.

Same here. I bought a leftover 05 in them middle of 2006 for 18,500. After a few weeks at the track and learning how to launch the FWD with that much torque,I was able to pull of a 13.96@98 mph. Then after a 50 trim and exhaust/intercooler upgrade I was running low 12's and still getting over 30 mpg on the highway. I loved that car,but I just didnt like the fact that I was driving a neon and sold it. I wish I would have kept it. I hope the SRT Dart will be similar.

Lokk let's all have a beer and relax. It isn't going to be exactly what you want. They need to sell 200,000 of these cars not 200. If they could get by selling 200 it could look just like a 67 dart and have a giant V-8 and go 200 mph. It would cost $500,000 but it would be just what you and 199 of your friends want. That said it would be cool if they made a 4 door version like the Saturn ions with rear opening doors(looks like a 2 door), fold down rear seat and a fold flat passenger seat like the magnum then gave the turbo version a demon name plate. That would be cool and different.

I think alot of ppl are assuming it will be fiat based but I on the other hand think its going to be a chrysler 200 with a front clip and tail lights.Which is a good thing because the new 200's have a convertible.I could see me in one.

Did you even read any of the articles? It is a Fiat platform, actually Alfa Romeo platform, just slightly wider. This is a compact car the 200/Avenger are mid size.

I'll stand by mt opinion and if you got any more compact than the 200 you would be on a motorcycle, those things are small. The spy shot on page 6 looks just like a 200 from the side.

This is the aspect I'm seeing in this car.
