When I was driving out to Carlisle I noticed my speedometer was bouncing. I also passed one of those digital speeding readouts and noticed about a 5mph difference between me and the readout. Is this an indication of a bad speedo cable?

................yes, take it off and lube it with graphite......u also need to go 1 way or the other with ur speedo gear.......kim.........

Possibly,Pac.Most likely, pull ,inspect, replace if frayed. If so,you can buy a cut to fit kit(10.00 would be close,I recall).Either way,hit the cable with white lithium lube, areosol would be best. That way,you can shoot a couple of squirts in the housing,as well.Hope this helps.

Too much coin! Check out Pioneer, unless buying a whole housing & cable. They do speedometer cable kits, housing usually doesn't need replacing. Measure your old cable,to the new one.Cut cable to match, crimp the square drive bit on,install. You are done!

Mine was bouncing more at lower speeds but still some at higher. It wasn't the cable but the bushing in the gauge had worn and the arms were rubbing as they circled the bottom. I don't know the proper terms. I was able to clean it up and get a little more clearance and it's better but not perfect.

Hi PaCuda59! Hope all is well with you and your family.

Both my 61 Chysler and 71 Charger have had this happen. The Chysler liked to squel as well which was lovely.

Pulled each cable out, put some grease on them, put them back in and fixed them both.

Good luck with yours.
