i am getting everything buttond up on the dart today, i would like to prime the motor before i fire it for the first time. what have you guys used to prime the oil pump?

Machine shop said if you used assy lube you don't need to prime it, just washes off all the lube, he builds all the hi pro drag motors around here.

It still never hurts to fill the oil passages and filter. It won't completely wash out the assembly lube, and if it does it replaces it with oil.

i would not try to start an engine unless I knew for sure it was going to have oil pressure...and after all it runs on oil not assembly lube...

Mopar Performance used to sell one.

I had to make one in welding class before they started making them. Measure the hex at the bottom of the distributor drive gear.

You can take an old oil pump drive and grind the teeth off. then turn it with a drill and big slotted screwdriver bit.Thats what i use.

Me three! Remember.. The crank distributes the oil to the cam and it in turn sends it to the heads. I turn the drill on and then, with the distributor disconnected, turn the motor over a bit. I found a broken cam once this way. (no oil to the rockers)

Prime and make sure it's getting oil to your rockers. After that, fire it up.

I use a piece of long hex stock.

I bought on from summit once and it was slipping in my drill and small bits of metal were going everywhere. Moral of the story use a chuck that requires a key and get it tight.

Grind the teeth off an old drive like mentioned and don't forget to rotate the motor so all the passages can line up and pressurize.
Test/change the regulator and or check wiring.
