So I figured I would replace all the seals and gaskets I could while the cars not running and give myself something inexpensive to tinker on... Pulled the intake and it may just be my lack of MOPAR know how but why are the two ports on both sides partially covered by the gasket? The bottom of the intake only has a small port as well, wrong intake or is that normal?

Thanks

Alright, thanks for the quick response. Will just continue onward then.

those are part of the crossover ports for the EGR, i can only assume to keep the temps down around the center port. the "U" shaped holes are blanks, and are only good for losing bolts, sockets, and drive bits in, and never getting them back. The ports that really matter are the ones about the size of a quarter, inside the "U".

Wish I could make something like that happen sometime.... everytime I tell myself it's only going to be a simple tinker job with little to no expense, I'm wrong....

A simple head gasket replacement once turned into a full motor rebuild, steering rack replacement, front suspension fully rebuilt, and new exhaust system on my DD eclipse a few years ago....everytime I got something simple done I looked around and the thought pops into my head "well....while I have that apart I might as well...."

Have fun!:nike:

Okay, when I compare it to the bottom of the intake it appears they are completely covered..

Haha, yeah.. Know the feeling.

it will only affect cold startup and warm up time. mine were full of carbon, i left them that way, and blocked off the egr and the floor vents inside the intake. if its super cold, give it a snort of WD-40 to keep the carb from icing up. not a huge deal.
