Make your car #'s matching!

-
I'm not a real "numbers matching" kind of guy, but I love original, documented cars as much as modified examples. Trying to pass a car off as something it's not is still not cool in my book. By the same token, I would enjoy a clone just as much as an original, but would always be quick to point out that it IS a clone.

I seem to remember that you could order a replacement block from Dodge/Plymouth. When doing so, you could tell them your VIN and they would stamp the block to match. Some just left blank like this 340. My dad's 440 Magnum in his '70 Charger R/T was a replacement block with the VIN stamped by Dodge.

So really it's not totally incorrect.... :p

Now if I just forge a fender tag I could have a one of, numbers matching, 340 Scamp!

Yep, and sadly, someone would believe it, because let's face it, the first rule with Chrysler is "Never say never".

I've heard that before as well. Stories like that are one of the reasons I will probably never own a numbers matching Mopar again. Can you ever really be 100% positive it is? I just love driving them! Whether it has date coded this or that, correct paint dabs, etc. is just not high on my priority list.

Yeah I don't take "numbers matching" to mean much anymore. Where does the line end? Original Engine from the factory? Replacement block with VIN stamp from the factory? Replacement block with VIN stamped by owner?

Truth be told....I love that my car's not numbers matching. It's surely wayyyy more fun.

Arghh, don't throw trucks into the mix! Now, I want to see pics of it! I know a Dart that 340 would work nice in. As for the truck, I would retire my 94, and swap the drivetrain into it. Luckily, no cash, no time, and no passport prevent this from happening! lol

If my car was numbers matching it would be a 6cyl :(

Personally I don't want an over the top show car. I'd be too scared something would happen to it. Bad enough my car got a big dent in it and I want it fixed but it's not bad enough I'm losing sleep over it.

A cousin built a $100,000 Cuda over 10 years to drag race. He raced it once and is now scared to race it again due to the years it took him to do all the work. Then he went out and bought a $100,000 pickup from Barrett Jackson to race instead.

Another cousin took the original engine out of his '69 Mustang Mach 1 and built a hotter motor in it so he doesn't have to worry about the original engine. He is so tired of the attention his car brings he doesn't even take it out anymore.

Glad to read you all get where I'm coming from. I'm curious how much he thinks his no numbers motor is worth. I personally won't contact him, as I don't like to play games with sellers.

$2000 for a motor that hasn't run in 40 years? Sounds like such a deal! I know stuff like this is harder to come by in Canada, but come on!

He's down to $1300 now for the Power Wagon. It would be a great deal for me. I could drive it home and stab the 340 into the Duster after stamping the Duster's vin on the block. Then I could take the 318 warranty motor (no vin) out of the Duster and stamp it with the vin of the Power wagon! It all evens out. I even get a truck out of the whole deal! Honey, I am flying out to Nebraska to bring home our latest addition to the family. LOL

most trucks, vans, and campers don't have a vin stamped on em...so theres a pile of 360,400,and 440 engines out there with blank pad.im not into that crap either, but a muscle car with all #s engine and trans is worth more than an equil with non #s.i guess even an original 318 car might be valued a little more with its factory engine between it's fenderwells...maybe it hesn't been beat on as much as a car thats had numurous engine

also....in 71 the 340 wasn't an option in the swinger.plus if someone bought that engine and put it in the're car it still will not be #s matching...
