Does anyone have any experience with reproduction exterior door handle for 1967 Barracuda? I purchased a set from New York restorod and was very pleased with their appearance and quality. Yesterday, in the process of putting parts back on the car, following new paint, I installed the passenger side handle. When I tried to open the door it would not actuate the door lock. After trying for several minutes I removed the handle and found it to be working. I compared the new to the old handle and realized that the housing sorrounding the push button mechanism on the new handle is about 1/4 to 5/8 inch deeper than the original handle. I checked several sources, PGClassics, Armstrong, etc. and they all show the same handle for 1964-70 Dart, Barracuda, etc..

Does anyone have knowledge of a fix for this or am I SOL?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Picked up a repop'd set at Carlisle from VansAuto for my 69 Dart. Said it'll fit 67 - 72 A bodies. Installed the pass side and it would not sit flush w/the body. Was able to rock it up and down. Bolted it down and there was a gap on the botton and the gasket would not seal correctly. Actually pinched the gasket so bad on the top it protruded out. My original handle sit flush. Looked at the castings at the rear of the chrome button compared to the originals and they were off a lot.

Called Vans and sent them back for a refund.

Everything you said is the same as mine. I am not as patience, as some, so as far as the not sitting flush in the door I found a small notch on the bottom of the repop and I filed, very little, the bottom notch at the bottom of the handle hole in the door and they fit right in. I was really pleased with the look and quality of the handle then I shut the door and the push button and it would not open.

Thank you, thank you, thank you... I installed the pass.side this evening and they work fine. Had to change the assembly for the original push rod, one screw and you are done.

I have been using them for years . They are not that expensive and are available new at the dealer.

I've held only one of those repops in my hand. I don't know what Chinaman made it or where it was purchased. It's rear corner was more square or not as well rounded. There was a spec of chrome missing about the size of a BB just under that corner and black casting sand falling out of it. Bad casting, second, poor quality control, whatever.
I wont rehash how just looking at a pair of these cost me over 80.00 but it wont happen again. I learned to love nice used OEM.

By the way... there is a hole in the end of the door where an allen/hex key will adjust how far you have to push the button to actuate the latch. Its a loosen adjust retighten procedure but I don't recall exactly which way to move the linkage, left, right, up, or down ?

I have nice used OEM, but the finish is scratched, small pits etc.. I wanted a better look to go with the new paint.

I priced new handles at the local Dodge dealer and was quoted a price of of over $100 per door just for the exterior handle. According to the mental midget, in the parts dept, Chrysler has seperated the door handle into the exterior handle and internal parts. If I wanted both the cost surpassed $200 each, welcome to Mopar!! I went repop for $35, for both, including shipping and the quality appears fine. Saved $365 that way and I still have the OEM if they fail.

I really think the numbers probably change up alot over the years. But here are some #3454390, 2583014, 2583015.And there are lots of Chrysler handles on e bay as we speak and new.
