Hello, I am looking for the best (largest) tire size for a 69 dart front and rear mounted on a 14 x5.5" rim. Everything is stock. will be using redline tires.I tried looking through the sticky, but it seems like most of the cars had modified wheels or suspension. Thanks.

I run 225/70/14 at all four corners of my '73 Swinger with 14" x 5.5"w rally wheels, FWIW.

It's a little spongy around corners, due to the sidewall flex, but I take my corners pretty fast too lol.

It's also a little wide for the wheel. I have some sidewall bulge, but it looks pretty good IMO.

215/60/14 or 215/70/14 may fit a little better and not bulge as much, but I wanted a taller tire for my combo.

We're just not in your situation, or not using stock or 14" wheels, and you might give these guys more than "an hour or two"

And, with those wheels you are going to be limited by the wheel size

Define "biggest" tallest / widest / both / ??

i'm running 225/70/14's on all 4 corners of my '69 dart gt & my '70 duster. that's as big a tire as you can get on the dart, wheel well is too tight for anything else stock. mini tub?

Based on everything I have read, this is correct that a 225 is the maximum width tire you can run on a 14" wheel at all four corners.

However, the stock wheel tubs can actually fit up to a 255 width tire with the correct backspacing. The problem actually occurs at the front of the car. Wider tires will rub against the strut rods (or frame, I forget which is the closest point of contact) with the steering at full lock if you go any wider than 225. That is why I decided to go with the 225/70/14s on all four corners.

Had 235/60/14's on all four corners on mine for a while. No rubs using the 14x5.5 wheel. I think the tire was to big for the rim though. This was on a 68 dart same as 69.

Yeah, I am going for the B5 blue car with the painted wheels and small hubcaps. Trying to restore the car as close to stock as possible. Thanks for all the positive replies. Bamamopar, I like how those rallys look on your car. I have a set of those too, but I think I should run the stock wheels.

The stock wheel tubs will hold hold at least a 10.50 or 275 width with 4.75-4.5" backspacing.

On what diameter? I've read that a 275 will fit with a 17" wheel, but from all of the research I've done, the sidewall flex and bulge on a 14" or 15" wheel will cause rubbing on anything over a 245 or 255.

If you have experience otherwise, I'd love to see it here. It would disprove a lot of forums I've read through.

Thanks.

I've owned 3 dart. 2 69's and one 68. Rear wheelwell stock will hold a 26x10.50x15" on an 8" rim with 4.75 -4.5 backspace. You'll hit the leaf springs before you hit the tubs.

In the front. I run skinnies so can't tell you. BUT There are 2 places that will be able to tell you and RMS is one and the other is protouring mopar.com you should see what those guys squeeze under the front

I don't think that 68-69 darts have different spacing than a 70-72 and I've been using 245-60-14s on the back of '70 Darts for 20 years with no spacing problems on stock 14X5.5 wheels. I usually use 205-70 14 front tires so that from the side the front and back look the same height

str12-340 has it right on.
Ran the very same combo on my 67. No rubs, no issues and looked great.

On the 5.5 inch - 215 70 14 which is about an E-70 14 in width and height. A 225-70 14 tire wants a recommended 6" rim.
