Just thought I would throw this out there before I put this engine up for sale. I have this 340 engine sitting in the shop and hopefully I can match it up with the car it came out of. The engine has a cast date of 11/18/69 and the VIN above the oil pan rail is 0R191262. If you know where the car with this VIN is located let me know and I'll try to help get married up again. I have no idea of the model it came out of. What kind of cars were built at the Windsor, Ontario plant in 1970?

All of the 340 Swingers were made in Windsor, Ontario regardless of where they were shipped.

I do not totally ungerstand what numbers matching means. I am looking at a 68, 318 fastback with a 67 front end and grill with a 340 automatic installed. I am really concerned about the pedigree of the car. The title matches the VIN on the dash (questional originality) as a 68 but the number on the radiator core support is different. I'm told that there is another VIN in the trunk...??? Please help!!

Numbers matching just means all of the components that have a VIN on them have the same VIN on them. Those parts are the VIN tag, radiator support, trunk drip rail, cowl on some cars, engine and tranny. Mopars didn't start doing the engine and tranny until 1968.

Thanks for the info.
Having located the number under the antifreeze label on the radiator core support, I found that this number not only had fewer digits than the dash VIN but also that the 2 numbers had very little similarity at all. Are these hidden VIN numbers supposed to be exactly the same? I have a picture of the fender tag. I went to get the car in Mississippi but turned down the seller who had been awarded the car in a law suit. Title, tag, VIN's, ownership, year model, etc were all in question. EBAY is not happy with me and I don't think I have heard the end of this. Are there experts that can validate originality?
Please feel free to send my concerns to anyone who can help.
Thanx in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!

68 does not follow the same number association as the 69 and up cars.

68 has the shipping order number stamped in the body, core support, trunk rail, not the VIN

Thanks Jay for posting the vin! Hope all is good with you n yours!
Hey Steve, things are going good. Jim was out my way a couple of weeks ago and brought this 340 with him. I went and bought a new home for the 340 today. If nobody claims it soon I'll have it in the engine bay real soon.

Good deal, so Jim's doing good too by the sounds of it. So what did you pick up for a foster parent for the 340??

I got a 72 Duster that is missing the engine and tranny. It was originally a /6, auto car. It has Petty blue paint on it now with 340 stripes and dual scooped hood. Should be fun. I'll try to post some pics later on.
I'm going to put Jim's 340 and a 4-speed in it.
