I am getting ready to install new AMD bumpers and was thinking about scuffing and painting the inside (non visible) to keep carrosion at bay. Even considering painting with truck bed coating.

I'd appreciate thoughts about whether this is a good or bad idea.

Gee, I might just hit it with some Rustoleum flat black, just to prevent surface rust, but I'm in California. The bedliner coating seems like overkill to me.

I scuffed the inside of my bumpers, used an etching primer then painted with a chrome paint out of the can. Turned out decent.

When I had my bumpers rechromed they recommended to paint the back

Just got mine back and the guy told me to use black rustoleum and wipe of excess from visible chrome with laquer thinner.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'll mask it off and then go 1) scuff, 2) self-etching primer, 3) silver rustoleum rattle can.

My rechromed bumpers I bought from Tri City came painted silver on the back side.

do silver paint... as recommended you can wipe any over spray off with lacquer thinner, it won't harm the chrome and its super easy!!

I painted my bumper rears and chrome wheel rears with POR 15's clear Peuclid paint. Can't see it and has the same great rust protection as POR 15!

i do that with my polished wheels i try and match the paint color as close as i can it really looks good stays cleaner longer and most dirt washes off nice

Thanks for the info and tips. I got it done yesterday. They look good (not that it matters since it is the INSIDE!) but more importantly hopefully the rust stays out!

I masked them off to minimize over spray:

Than self-etching primer:

I had two cans of silver paint, the first can had a bad nozzle and the paint spattered so it didn't lay down smooth. At least it is the back and appearance is irrelevant.

The second can was "chrome" color and laid down smooth!

I've painted inside of original bumpers with a flat gun metal gray or raw steel like color so it isn't so obvious.

That stuff looks like a good product. I'm trying to keep my costs down and I already had the paint I used.
