:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:I just put in an 8 3/4 out of a 66 charger it had no backing plates I picked up some 11 inch drums and backing plates. When I went to buy shoes they were 11x2 shoes. The local parts store showed them to be for a Polara. I installed axels with
green bearings put the drums on went to test it out and the drums are rubbing badly on the backing plate. I do not know what to do. Why is it rubbing in there. The drums and backing plate came together. :eek:ops:This has been ridiculous I have jacked with for weeks.

No Idea When things get old (these girls ARE old LOL) and when parts start being swapped

Here's what I'd do. Determine FOR CERTAIN That the shoes / brake hardware will work OK

Determine for certain the drums are not hitting the shows on the inside face of the drum

If you are absolutely certain that the drums are hitting the backing plates and that the backing plates are 11" I'd find a "friendly" shop that turns drums and have them turn off some of the outside edge of the drum

This is a guess without seeing it with my own eyes, but it sounds as if the axles were made for narrower drums. I believe the standard dimension from the bearing flange to wheel mounting flange is 2 1/2". If narrower you would need narrower brakes.

My 11 inch drums have the brake size stamped on the rim edge. I think you have the wrong backing plates. I picked mine up from the back of a station wagon, got everything from one axle. You might have the 2 1/2" drums on a 2" backing plate.

I think you may be right. Gipped again. I will find out tomorrow new drums will be here then I will no for sure. If not I am telling the wife to call Mosier and send me a complete Dana disk to disk

What wheels are you using on the car? If they're reproduction wheels, they could be causing the drum to flex inward when you tighten the lugs, and the drum will hit the backing plate. Happened to me.

Got new drums today from the local parts house went on perfect no noise. drums must have been warped or something
