I need to replace a 5/8" Heater Hose Nipple with a 1/2" to mate to a new radiator core. Does anyone know of a tool made to remove the nipple? I don't want to break it off on the intake manifold.

This probably doesn't help much, but I always have used channel locks or vice grips to remove those....maybe lay a screwdriver in the groove sideways....that's all I got, sorry.

Soak the fitting with PB blaster for a day or two. You can try the channel locks and vise grips, but I would look at a pipe wrench. You may end up taking it to your local repair shop or a machine shop to get it out if you can't. Just my thoughts.

If you are talking about the heater core, my car is the same way. I just put the hose and clamped it, it will fit with a little effort.

They can be a biatch. PB and heat, several times, keep smacking downwards with a hammer. Then the visegrips crush it. Then cut it off, drill out, leaving the threads, then pick the threads out, then use anti-sieze.

That fitting does not look like it has been in there very long. I bet vice grips squeezed really tight and some strong arms will get that right loose. It will be chewed up but it will be out. And heat on that intake is your friend.

There was a special socket made to use on those at the factory. I don't know if it was available to the "public"...

They ended up changing to a standard hex so a deep well socket can be used on the later models. I was involved in that change, but it is a long story and I do not have time to explain it right now.

I've got a cute little 12 inch pipe wrench that works there. I always remove the temp sender and alternater out of my way first though

If you break it the plumbing supply or home hardware stores sell nipple extractors that fit inside and use a cam action.

I wouldn't trust a cam action extracter in that cast iron. I've never used that type extrater, just imagining the pressure on the weak side of the casting.
If I broke it off I would drill out to 1/16 under the minor thread dimeter and use a keen point chisel to colapse the remaining hull.

I remember John at custommachinecomponents.com used to made some of those. Its funny I didn't see them on the website .You may want to contact him to see if they are available

Considering that this thread is over 2 years old, I would hope that he fixed his problem by now, lol.

You need a set of nipple extractors. They are a plumbing tool. See attached photo.
