Lifter storage???

How bout Numbered Egg Cartons?

Or a Box that New Lifters come in (numbered/labeled)

I have a couple of sets I kept in order. What I did was to use some shoe box cardboard, and form a long narrow box (if you will) using tape to hold it together. I put the lifters in, in order, tape it up real good and write on the outside which side they came out of AND which is front to rear.

If you do this just make sure you put a mark on the front or rear before you go to taping, as you will be turning the box and can easily loose track which end is which, lmao, at least I thought I might.

And if you want to keep them with a specific cam, which I assume you do, you can wrap the cam much the same way and label the cam A or 1 etc and put a corresponding letter or number on the lifters.

I like to use new lifter packaging to keep them in order if I think that I may reuse them.

I usually throw in a new set when I rebuild anyway....

I tried to wrap them in paper towels with cardboard on the sides and tape it real tight. It didn't work as well as I planned. So don't do that.

Why? See above, it works perfectly, I didn't use paper towels though.

I would too, but a lot of times we don't have a new lifter box to put them in, so I improvise.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I appreciate it! I don't have a new box, so I'll have to improvise. I like that 2x4 idea. Good imagination!

I do too, in fact I had thought about that. Then I thought what happens if it gets knocked over, oops, now they aren't in order anymore. I suppose one could tape them in just in case though.

Honestly, I just need something temporary until the new lifters come. I guess you could always do two 2x4s and sandwich them and screw them together too.

Go to Lowe's/ Home Depot, buy a piece of Oak plank about 18 inches long, 8 inches wide, about 1 1/2 inches thick. Buy a 1 inch spade bit, lay out a hole pattern drill 16 holes about an inch deep, mark one end FRONT, and now you can keep your lifters in order, you can add holes to keep push rods in order also. You can make it smaller if you wanted, you get the idea. Hard wood is nice as it doesn't splinter as much as pine.
