Hi everyone. Planning to die my bench seat and rear seat black. Looking for suggestions on which vinyl dye I should buy. The front seat is blue, the rear is two tone green.

Thanks FABO!

I used the dye from O'Rielly's, can't remember the brand name. You will also need adhesion promoter too. So far so good, I haven't had any issues (yet). :D

If I recall it was about 8 bucks a can, you would need, to be on the safe side, at least three, four might be better.

Whatever you use, clean, clean, clean is important, use the adhesion promoter and follow the directions.

SEM Color Coat. Been 12 years on my door panels, sunvisor, and back seat. Just make sure you buy their vinyl and plastic prep and follow the directions.

Thanks for the info! I'm getting ready to do my door panels.

Did you use any clear coat? Would you recommend satin or gloss for black door panels?

Thanks again! This was perfect timing.

I would go with the satin. Wouldn't use the clear coat either. Just the satin coat should be good

Thanks FlyingFalcon!

Bought the SEM satin black color coat and vinyl prep. Finished up today. Door panels turned out great!! I also did the door handles. The stuff really surprised me how well it covered. I went from Red to Black.

I can see dying door panels, back seat n stuff but the front seat too? Wonder if sliding your rear every time to get in and get out will rub off the dye?

I did the steering wheel in my Rat with SEM and it still has not faded or peeled and it's been 5 years. Prep is key to making it stick.

I used SEM Color Coat in Satin Black (PN#15243). I highly recommend it! I used it on all
the interior plactics, seat backs and steering wheel. It looks great and covers well.

As already stated, preparation is key. Here are the steps I took:
  1. Clean piece thoroughly with soap and water
  2. Take a red scotch bright pad to the piece
  3. Rinse again/dry
  4. Spray piece with adhesion promoter (let it set up for about 5-10 minutes so it softens the plastic/vinyl)
  5. Spray piece again with light coat of adhesion promoter just before you spray with SEM vinyl dye (It helps to bond the promoter and the dye)
  6. Spray with SEM vinyl dye
  7. Add addtional coats of vinyl dye if needed. (I usually do 2-3 coats)
*Do not use clear coat. It makes the black turn grey in color.
