Lookin into purchasing a 69 D100 this comin weekend. I noticed in the ad that they just installed a GM alternator. Why would someone do that? May that cause an issue? Is it some kind of upgrade?

If it makes any difference, it's a 318/auto 2wd

as long as it charges the battery ...why worry.....

Because Mopar electronics SUCK, that's why.

GM single wires just work.
You can also buy a single wire unit that installed in a Mopar case from Summit.
I agree with Rusty on his comments on Mopar electrics, especially the charging system from that era.

Have one on my Barracuda,14 volts at idle with the lites on.

My 68 D100 has the original single wire mechanical voltage regulator system on it. The guy I bought it from installed a two wire electronic regulator alternator on it. Needless to say it did not charge til I grounded the second field terminal. It works fine with no added loads on the system but would run out of steam quick if it had to run a lot of accessories.

Thanks just never really heard of doin such a thing, glad it's nothing to worry about. Pretty excited about this truck. needs a few things here and there, but looks like an awesome old daily truck. Gotta have a cool truck to haul around the parts for ur cool car right?! Even better, both Mopar
