Hey Lads, I tried a search (I'm sure there's a topic on it) but I can't seem to locate it.

What is the process for turning the hemi over by hand?

Thanks.

All of the above,
I use the crank bolt and large socket, then when I'm done I can hold the socket with a pair of vice grips to loosen the crank bolt.

Dave - you dont have to worry about losing TDC when turning it over - the ECU picks up the correct cylinder sequence off the tone wheel - Still....it doesnt hurt to mark tdc when you find it....in case you ever want to degree a cam...

I use the hand crank supplied on the 48 case tractor when the battery is dead. LOL

Not to change the subject but does anyone know the size of the damper bolt on a big block?

If you have a friend, it's a lot easier. Yall get on one side and flip it over.

yea i thought it was a huge socket because I used a 1 5/16 socket and it seem to be just a little to big

Fulcrum and a long bar if you don't have a friend.

Removing a plug from each cyl. And a breaker bar as stated by others, and perhaps some mystery oil the day before if it's been sitting , are the preferred methods.

I use an 1 1/4" socket and a long flop headed ratchet .

13/16" socket (close enough) for 3G Hemi crank bolt. A 1/2" drive ratchet works fine for me.

1 1/4" socket on a ratchet with a cheater pipe will do it...

I keep a 2 - 4 foot length of pipe that I can fit over my wrench handle to multiply the torque. It's an trick that us old farts have used for years....

An old fart passed that on to me when I was young. Been using that trick since.

By 'turning it over' , I think Dave means hand cranking.... not flipping it upside down...

...just another language thing :)

If you really want to turn it over, get it on the highway over 90 MPH, slam on the brakes and crank the wheel to one side....

...It will turn over... No problem....
