Thread size question

Could someone tell me the thread size on the stock Hurst shifter on a 69 GTS?
I bought a new ball that's 3/8-16 thread and it's too small.

Lots of shift balls are 1/2-20TPI, and some are 9/16-18 TPI. Get yourself some nuts of that size, and try them on it. That should do it.

Once you find the right size nut like barracudadave says, buy one called a "coupling nut" and weld a 3/8-16 bolt to it to adapt your ball.
