....my wife went to a baby shower. Had just gotten done with my daily 45 minutes on the treadmill. Was sitting at the table when I heard a neighbor screaming...and my 4 dogs going ballistic. The biggest, oldest goat they have jumped the fence. My hounds were just barking at it. Daisy, a blue nosed Pitbull, and Shelby, an American Bull Dog-Pit Bull mix had their teeth into it. I pulled Daisy off of it, was walking her towards the house when the goat charged one of the hounds...thanks to my back I am not exactly flexible anymore...Daisy seen the goat going after one of the hounds and freaked out...I was in enough pain I had to let her go. She latched onto the goats throat. Kim, the neighbor, told me to not hurt myself, not to worry about the goat. Kim fired a Shotgun into the ground. Hounds went running, Shelby turned to look and that's when another neighbor reached thru the fence and grabbed her. I got Daisy and the hounds inside. Put a leash on Shelby, hauled her away. Goat is missing a chunk of its ear. Has some chew marks, and some puncture wounds. Was so stressed he wouldn't walk. Loadded him on a tarp, dragged him out of the trees. Loaded him on the car trailer. Soon as he seen the rest of the goats he stood up and walked into his pen.
Kim then says suppose it's time she puts the electric wire on the fence.
This is the same goat that got between the fences a few months back. When I put up MY fence they had a falling down fence. Instead of having them remove it I just put MY fence up a foot or so on OUR side of the property line.
Now before anyone says my dogs are the problem...Ernestina and I are both pretty twisted up physically. We are both in agree.entry that our dogs are here to help keep us from harm. This is why I never bothered socializing them. You hop the fence into our yard you will have to deal with them.
Can't wait for someone to try and tell me that my neighbor is not at fault. That I am for letting my dogs be the way they are.
My neighbors have put the cart in front of the horse, so to speak. If you are going to raise goats you need to HAVE SECURE pens PRIOR to bringing the goats onto your property, not after.
Ultimately no harm. Another neighbor was a bit concerned about all this. In particular my dogs. I politely informed him that we have a fenced in yard, with No Trespassing and Beware of Dogs signs for a reason. I also not so politely told him that until he pays our taxes he has no right to say a damn thing to me. When I was driving away from dropping the goat up he attempted to apologize...
And yes, I am FULLY AWARE of the dog bite statutes in Washington state, as well as my rights as a property owner that is fenced and, posted Trespassing signs...

I never understood why anyone would want to keep
goats. A guy down the road has a few and they are not content with the grass in their pen. Its like they are obsessed to have the grass on the other side of the fence. They will stick their head thru the wire
fence and their horns will trap them to the spot. They sit there all day till he gets home from work and frees them. Then they do it again over and over. The goat nor the goat owner learning from the incident.
I guess my point is goats seem to be quite stupid, if he can manage he will be back like he forgot what it felt like to be bit by your dog. Not your fault ink.
Wouldn't be to surprised to here about a dead goat sometime in the future. And some very happy proud dogs.

Neighbor just called me over to the fence...to apologize for everything that happened. While I was talking to him I noticed sonething. The pen that the goats are in has one side that is up against the property line, the other 3 are fences put up in there yard. He has an electric wire on the 3 sides that if the goats got out they will stay in there yard.....the side that butts up against us...no wire....hmmmm.....Wouldn't it make sense to put the wire up against the neighbors first? Hmmm....
Lot of folks out here have animals...with minimal fencing. Had a neighbor that had 2 dogs get shot because they were out wandering....and chasing other folks while they were driving out. This folks swear that fences are not needed when you have animals....these are the folks that claim to be farmers. They had several large pigs...contained by wire field fencing held up by pounded in metal fence post. Was driving down their street few weeks back...they were trying to round up the pigs, one of them pushed the fence down. Told her that I would go home and get my 338 WinMag...as long as I could keep the meat...didn't go over well...

I think the dogs deserved a goat sammich. Sounds like they worked for it.

Glad you are ok though, Doug.

Funny you mentioned "grass in the pen". These folks are unemployed. I think the wife may be disabled...but i have never asked as this is not the sort of thing that we chat about. I do know I have never seen them spreading hay (alfalfa?). Never observed them out with grain buckets. What i have seen is them throwing water, for hours a day, in an attempt to get the weeds to grow. They used to have Ponderosa Pines scattered around. The goats stripped them. The goats also has access to what I think was a Maple tree of sorts...that is now gone as well. A woman at the baby shower has goats. I texted Ernie last night, she mentioned what was going on to everybody. Susan asked if we had mowed the area where the goat came over the fence. Couldn't get a mower back there if I wanted ro. Susan told Ernie chances are the goat noticed the tall grass and being that they are probably borderline malnourished decided it was chow time. She also said that chance are good that the goats will be back. My back is hurting like it never has. I won't be doing that anytime soon....next time I will be going out with a bunch of leashes....and a .45...Susan did say she has some killer, no pun intended, goat recipes.
This is not the first time for type of thing. Last time the goat was stuck between the fences. Our dogs have killed several ducks from over there...as well as a very young goose.
While back one of the kids made mention that they "have baby ducks on their side of the fence". I will be the first to admit that often times the filter between my brain and mouth is turned off...I replied to the kid that as long as the baby ducks stayed over there it won't be a problem...

good fences make good neighbors. YOU have the good fence, the neighbor does not!

put a horse in a small lot, he will eat the grass till its bare dirt, then , reach over, threw the fence after what he sees too eat. they are like us people, they have to have adequate food and water.... any critter. even goats....

goats are good climbers and can jump, eat any type of veg. the neighbor should inc his hot wire to go all the way around his goat yard!

fences? hog tight, bull strong, and horse high...... not sure what they said of goats? maybe run them on 500 sections with no fence!? ha

You're pretty nice I think. Easily just coulda let your dogs kill it and tell the neighbor to clean up the carcass. Or pulled your dogs off and given em five minutes to get their goat off your land. And building your fence back and losing a foot of land? Much more than I would do.

Sounds like your neighbor is half reasonable though. Understanding the goat and their fence was at fault. Not you or your dogs. Nothing worse than someone who can't take personal responsibility for a damn thing they or their property does. Hope it works out for the best and they build a proper fence.

Don't like aggressive Pit Bulls. That's fine with a goat, but if your dog ever gets out, it could be a child. One bit my son. A lot of people make them mean. No respect for that.

Three pit bulls attacked my neighbors 23 yo daughter as she was jogging down the road. While the wife and I were outside. The young lady had to be taken to the walk in and received a few stitches. Oh the dogs? They disappeared. If I were your neighbor, heaven help your dogs if they ever got out!

I've got a german shepherd that is usually docile, but I have warned the girl my wife babysits for a good handfull of times to STOP coming in my house without knocking.

You guessed it, she came to pick up her kid the other day (wrong time, guess work let her go early) dog didn't notice her pull up, neither did I, as soon as that door swung open she was in her face trying to keep the girl out of the house. Didn't do any harm to her but I'm certain she will finally start knocking

agree w/ u on this. if u got the signs up, and the fence to contain the dogs it`s all good, unless u live where a meter reader has to come in the yard. the law will be on his side then.

My neighbors had goats years ago. They already had an electric fence for a horse. When they got the goats they added 5-6 wires spaced 6-8 inches apart starting about 4 inches from the ground. I hate goats. They are noisy and they stink. I tried goat cheese. Thought it smelled the same as them and there crap. No thanks. One of very few foods on my not interested list.

My grandparents raise goats, it depends on the breed as some are noisy as hell. Others arent.
