So I spent several hours trying to get my new Turbo Action torque converter (17805ST) bolted to my B&M flex plate - I tried all 4 possible positions several times - it's just not mating up. I was able to get three out of four bolted up, but the 4th one just isn't going - it's about a 16th off, maybe a hair more. It has been suggested that I drill out/open up the one hole in the flex plate that is preventing me from getting this done..
So I am looking for additional advice - to drill the flex plate or not, that is the question.

Is it possible to bolt the flex plate to the crank backwards? It has been decades since I bolted one up so just asking.

Been there done that... Flip it over.
I wish that was the case - I assure you it cannot be done with the B&M piece. Of course I will check when I pull the engine - but I didn't change anything when I pulled it last spring and it fit fine with the old tc.

the bolt pattern to the crank will not allow it to go on backwards

I would not drill anything like that to fit.. Thats me personally. I would compare it to the one that fits.

Woodie

so if it bolted to your old tc your new tc must be the problem I would think you could elongate the holes with a round file if its only out the small amount you say .

The magnum converter bolt pattern is symmetrical, the old style have one bolt hole "odd." I would guess either the converter or the plate is for the opposite type

upon removal I discovered all 4 mounting holes on the flex plate were a touch out of round (more like a burr on the edges) - filed 'em to better roundness and it's good to go!! Thanks all!! ...even you Ben :poke: :D
